Career fair coming up?

Hey guys, I currently attend NJIT as junior, majoring in mechanical engineering.

I transferred from Rutgers newark because they only had 2 years of engineering program.

In a week, career fair will take place in NJIT and I need to start preparing my resume for the

fair.

The problem is that I literally do not have that much work experience nor any experience

relevant to engineering; I've done volunteering in englewood hospital for 2 years and received

some kind of certificate for growing plants from Tenafly, Bergen County, NJ when i was in

highschool.

And regarding my gpa; since I transferred to NJIT from Rutgers, (I have taken few classes in NJIT when I was attending rutgers), only the credits I have gained from rutgers transferred over to NJIT.

Meaning that the GPA points will not be included, greatly downgrading my GPA(only NJIT gpa will count).

I'm not really sure how to deal with this; should i just leave my gpa blank in the resume?

If the people from company in career fair ask about my gpa, should I just tell them my gpa is zero since I have transferred(which is normal for transfer students)?

thanks alot

Companies will not ask you about your GPA at an internship fair. That would be silly. When you go to the fair you are networking; you are trying to make an impression. If the recruiter can put a face to the resume he reads later, then you did a good job at the fair. If not, you are at no disadvantage.

Check online about how to handle transfer GPAs. I would imagine that since you transferred, you would simply include your GPA from Rutgers next to the line where you say you went there from 2010 to 2012, and you would not include a GPA from NJIT since you have none to speak of yet.

What kinds of internships are you looking at? It isn’t often that you find ones that recruit in the fall.

thanks for the reply

But the problem is, the gpa is still below 3.0 even counting rutgers gpa so I’m don’t think I will

be able to get any internship related to engineering field.

I just want to get an internship so that next year I go to career fair during senior year,

I can boost my gpa and show the recruiters that I did have an intern and I’m not one of those

students who’s new at this… something like that haha
