Career Path?

Ok, so I'm basically looking for career advice,

Background:

I'm entering my sophomore year at the University of Miami as a Finance/ Management Science Double Major.

GPA: 3.95

I have quite a few EC's with high leadership positions but none of them are actually business related. More like on-campus involvement/volunteer work.
I do work part-time but again, its not really business related.

Going to a non-ivy, should I even consider trying to break into IB (if so what would be the best way to go about that?). What other fields are there that I should look into?

Great job on the GPA! Keep up the excellent work – it only gets harder. I think you should definitely aim for IB, even if you are unsure if you can break in. Thing is, even if you don’t break in, the effort you put into it will hopefully yield a high GPA and stellar extracurriculars. It’ll position you well for pretty much any job/internship.

I haven’t researched IB extensively, since I’m not particularly interested in finance. However, I have some friends that are into IB and are interning at bulge brackets this summer. I go to a top 25 private.

I think you definitely have to keep up your great GPA. I think that’s the single, most important factor. Extracurriculars are great, but if you have a low GPA, firms are not going to give you a second glance.

I’m just going to list what my friends have done, and you can go ahead and try to figure out what to do. In terms of what they’ve accomplished, it’s pretty diverse… but the trend I observe is that they don’t try to accomplish everything; they try to excel at whatever they’re involved in.

My friend at Morgan Stanley this summer was in ATO, but he became inactive to intern in Disney Finance department year-round. He’s in one finance-related extracurricular (not exec board).

My classmate interning at Bank of America Merrill Lynch is a full tuition scholar, officer of multiple orgs (not just a member of any of them), interned at Citigroup last summer.

My friend interning at Wells Fargo was Senior Vice President of Delta Sigma Pi, officer of one other business student organization, and interned at Merrill Lynch Private Wealth Management during the year.

My friend interning at Barclays Capital is a full tuition scholar, double major (chemical engineering & finance), interned at ExxonMobil the summer after sophomore year, is not an officer of any on campus student organizations.
