Careers?

As a high school student, what do you think is more important: choosing a jobs that suits you or your wallet? Do you think that your undergrad major will help in achieving your goal, whether it mean for self-satisfaction or money?

I'm genuinly interested in becoming an interpretor. In achieving that goal, I'm considering IR and Linguistics (both of which I'd enjoy). If I'm not mistaken interpretors do get paid a lot of money (but lack health benefits). Ig uess I wind up doing what I want, and get a good money flow.

Perosnally, I'm just scared that i won't be able to master langauges well enough to interpret. I hopefully will be able to do English, Korean (non-fluent native-speaker, if that's not an oxymoron to you), Spanish (though I doubt it'd be of much use), Chinese (I have a genuine interest, but picking it up without any background would be difficult), and American Sign Lagnague.

My career in finance suits both me AND my wallet lol

What I would try and do if I were you:

You said you're in high school. So try and to a summer internship at the UN or another international organization. Translate stuff, talk to people, experience what it would be like, just get a general idea of the lay of the land. Then you can decide.

As for choosing careers: Ideally, pick a career that suits both you and your wallet. Otherwise, it depends on personal preference. Some want a fulfilling job, others want to work their asses off, and then retire at 30. It's all up to you.
