Careless Mistakes...

How do you guys deal with these in school? I make them so often that it strongly affects my grades. This also affects my SAT score.

Tips? Opinions? Advice?

You mean the kind where you know the answer but you accidentally bubbled the wrong one? Or the kind in which you have the right answer and change it to the wrong one…I’ve often done the second one. Just take your time with the tests.

usually i have like 0-1 careless mistakes on my tests. i get mad cuz i knew the answer and i was stupid enough to put it in correctly.

Start by conceding that there’s no such thing as a careless mistake, and all mistakes are equally weighted.

Then you just go through the motions a little more carefully, keeping track of everything you do.

Let me tell you something…Usually when it comes to SAT writing for me, i get around 720 but then today i did an untimed test and i took my time with all the questions…it turns out that i get a surprising 760! (only 2 questions wrong-it was in the CB book)Therefore, i realize that my problem is going too fast. My point is to go through each question word for word, and you’ll realize the problem more confidently.

omg, same! It happens to me all the time, especially in math. I’ll add/forget random negatives or change 8 to 3 or something like that or add instead of subtract and vice versa, it sucks. My grade suffered too, I got my first B ever in math last year b/c of that which made me so mad since I knew what I was doing. Luckily I still got an A that semester and for the year.

I’m absolutely terrible with careless mistakes. There have been so many times when I had no problem with all of the most difficult material on a test, but make a mistake on something I could normally do in my sleep or that I learned in second grade.

I really don’t think there’s much you can do besides take your time and double (or triple) check all answers. If there’s a certain type of problem/question you tend to make the most mistakes on, pay specific attention to them.
