Looking at last year’s CDS, Carleton rejected over 60% of their applicants, so that really is the most common outcome, despite the apparent over-representation of waitlisted folks on this thread.
Are any accepted students doing a gap year? I graduated high school a year early, so I plan on spending next year in Korea on exchange. Then I will come back to Carleton with the class of 2021 I guess.
@rayrick Where exactly did you come up with your statistic? When I look at their CDS, I see that almost 80% were not accepted for Fall 2015 admission. And going to College Navigator for admission in Fall 2014, 77% were not accepted. For the current cycle, this from Carleton’s blog:
“This year, the committee admitted roughly 22% of applicants”
BTW, accepted #s include students on wait list who were ultimately admitted.
@alooknac, that 60% refers to true, straight-up rejections. Carleton put a LOT of kids on their waitlist last year, almost the same number as they admitted. So the breakdown was roughly 20% admitted, roughly 20% waitlisted, and 60% rejected. Does that make sense?
It’s semantics. One is the admit rate; one is the reject rate. They don’t add up because of the difference in how you count the WL I think it’s fair to call the WL rejections when you see how few they took from that WL.
@alooknac I’m curious what her second choice school was.
ACCEPTED!!! 3 months ago I applied for ED and was deferred–It felt like heartbreaking. Now I feel so blessed hope everyone finds where he/she fits the best!
I am ecstatic that my D was accepted. I made her apply last minute because I wanted her to consider an LAC; everything else was reach huge public and super-reach Ivy-like. It seems to have the perfect characteristics (to me); intellectual, liberal, no Greek, supportive, not too far (Illinois), “quirky” adjective NOT used in characterizing the school. I hope she likes it when visiting. She is serious (but not pro) dancer (ballet, jazz); can she fill that need? Convenient skating rink, too?
Has anyone still not received an acceptance packet?
@DHMchicago Carleton was my suggestion to my kid, too, after I learned about it here on cc. I knew he’d love it, and he did. I can’t speak to the dancing, but every winter the school floods the quad and makes two, I think, giant outdoor skating rinks for broomball. I’m guessing kids ice skate there, too. Anyone know?
Yes, kids ice skate there, and there are ice skating classes through the PE department there too.
Hey guys, just wondering if we have been waitlisted and would like to show our interest, should I write them a letter on their admissions’s email or should I write the letter on the portal in the box provided in the waitlist form… the one under “I would like to remain on the Carleton wait list” options and the box says, “Is there any additional information you would like us to know?”. Is this box just for communication information or for expressing our interest?
thanks
Korea!!! I want to go there too. Just to learn Korean and I plan to go there this summer. It is soooo exciting though I was in the waitlist of Carleton.
@mythics I just put my contact information and also wrote a line saying that I would send them a letter with updates soon. I was confused on what to do too- think this is a safe bet. Best of luck!
@DHMchicago Northfield Ice Arena is two miles from campus. But if your daughter is a serious skater and needs high level coaching, the Bloomington Ice garden is 34 miles to the north.
@Caytiest When are you going? Do you know any korean yet?
@RamonaFlowers I just saw you on the Colby thread. Looks like we have another common decision. Where else have you applied?
@thunderfly Carleton, Skidmore, Kenyon, Macalester, Tufts, Earlham, Lake Forest, Stanford, Brown and Harvard so basically a bunch of far reaches
u?
Does anyone know how much Carleton gives in aid, generally?
It meets need. Depends on your need. Carleton was quite generous to ds.
