Carleton Transfers

So I hear they're taking more than usual this year because of some new dorms!

Is that true? If it is then that’s one sought after bit of good news. I’m applying to Carleton as a transfer, and I’m not hopeful of my prospects. The college is so much more popular now compared to when I first applied to college in 2006. Anyone else applying as a transfer student?

yep, its true. talked to admissions

did they give you any numbers on this? ie. accepted/applied previous years, how many more they’re taking this year???

last year they admitted 15 with a yield of 9…so thats 60% yeild. If their target is to enroll 20 than that implys they’ll admit around 33 or so (last year’s applicant pool was 195).

thanks #nineteen for the information.

does anybody have any idea what they look for in transfer apps?? I mean are they one of those schools that basically only takes transfers from other LACs or do they look for people who will really benefit from entering a more academically challenging school?

I have a few blips in my record because of family issues etc - my old school is in no way comparable academically, but I pretty much had to enroll there for reasons beyond my control…the administration has especially been not helpful at all in the application process

however, I have been super impressed by the Carleton admissions office with their helpfulness, and felt encouraged by my interview. I absolutely fell in love with Carleton when I visited because of how much they emphasize the intellectual and quirky student body. but I definitely have concerns that my record may just not be impressive enough even though I definitely have the potential to succeed at Carleton

anyways, any thoughts would be appreciated…also feel free to commiserate about the waiting process or share your stories :)

anyone hear anything?? a lot of the freshmen applicants seemed to hear a week or two before the deadline

good luck to everyone!

not yet, but I was told the letter should arrive before the 13th

I got the letter today, was no good. Wish the best of luck to all you transfers!

@ everywhichway, I’m sorry to hear that! good luck with all of your your decisions!

EveryWhichWay: I saw on another thread that you were accepted at Reed as a transfer … but that the money was questionable. You’ve been looking at wonderful schools! Just curious. Where were you this past year?

waaaaa! everywhichway got into Reed but rejected from carleton? i got waitlisted at both…

I got in! but I’m kind of worried about being rescinded

waitlisted…I guess the waitlist list size must be significantly smaller than the freshmen waiting list…don’t know if that makes any significant difference or not
