Carleton Transfer Thread - Fall 2012

Any other transfer applicants here?

We're getting closer to decision day. As of today, there are 43 more days until May 15!

Good luck :slight_smile: Which college do you hail from?

Hang in there. My D transferred to Carleton. It can be done.

Thanks guys. I hail from another LAC and want to go to Carleton for a specific major sub-field. I already submitted my application, and am anxiously awaiting the 05/15 d-day. So it’s probably too late, but any advice, pokhaku? I don’t think they take a lot of transfers… :/

It varies from year to year, but that’s true. The transfer admission rate is generally lower than the regular admission rate. Last year it was 9% (228 transfer applicants and 22 acceptances - of those 12 enrolled). Last year there were 4988 regular applicants of which 1546 were accepted and 519 enrolled.

I don’t know what Carleton looks for in a transfer applicant. We counted ourselves lucky that our daughter was accepted, especially since she had turned them down the year before when she went elsewhere. Apparently they don’t hold that against a subsequent transfer applicant. Statistically, she was in the middle of the pack for Carleton applicants, and had very good but not spectacular grades at her other college, so I presume her ECs and recommendations from her profs helped. It is hard to read the tea leaves.

Best of luck.

Thanks for your comment, pohaku. Based on the CDS, it looks like that ~10% transfer acceptance rate is pretty typical. That’s not encouraging, compared to the 30% figure you mentioned, and I imagine that even more self-selection takes place in transfer admissions. Daunting! Well, only about a month to go…

I am also a transfer applicant and I was wondering if anyone knows whether Carleton requires a midyear report/midyear grades??

By that do you mean midterm or mid-semester grades? You should check with admissions, but I don’t recollect providing them when my D transferred. They wanted a transcript with her application of course, and probably got first semester grades from her then current school with the transcript, but never asked for anything more prior to making a decision.

About three weeks left. If the RD thread is any indication, the decisions might come anywhere between 1-2 weeks before the listed reply-date.

Does anyone know if notifications are by mail or online?

@kaialem: mail. : )
