My son’s in 12th gr. at a pretty rigorous private high school.
His big down side is his lack of activities but he took 4 yrs. of computer science at his high school including
AP and Advanced design and computer language C+(?) at a community college. All A’s.
UW GPA 3.7
W GPA 4.0
SAT: Reading 740, Math 720
SAT II: Math 790
AP Tests: CS 4, Phy1 5, USHist 4
This year, getting all A-/A in: AP Phys2 , AP Calc AB, AP Econ, AP English, Advanced Comp Dsn, Art
Not applying for F/A.
It will be very hard to get into Carnegie Mellon, especially as a CS major.
Unfortunately, your son’s Unweighted and Weighted GPA aren’t high enough to look a competitive applicant.
Also, SAT (1460) puts your child at a bit below average, unfortunately. It would be excellent if he could raise his math SAT score to 800, given that he was able to hit 790 on Math II.
What are my chances getting in CMU/CS Major: SAT:2300 (M 800, CR 800), BioSAT:780, Math2:800; WGPA:4.11 several APs and good academic rigor, great tech internship and decent ECs, NM semifinalist.
@hollywoodsign ask your son to apply to Georgia Tech, Case Western Reserve U, U of Illinois, and Purdue. CMU has only 125 seats for computer science and fully half go to girls today. So its just not enough seats for most strong applicants to get accepted.
