You guys play any sports for all 4 years?

There are so many things that I didn’t do that right now I’m wishing I had…

I have done research on the Android OS, though–I submitted that as a research supplement.

@OlinProspect I’ve been on swim team all four years.

i did their summer pre-college program which cost a ton of $$$, can’t demonstrate more interest than that right? lol

I’d think that applying ED shows more interest than anything. We’re already saying that we will 100% go if they accept us. How could we possibly be more interested?

On the EC subject, do you guys think it hurts to have a big EC that isn’t tech/computer related when applying to SCS?

Lol yea. Did track. I’ve heard they care more bout like math than your cs experience. Talked less about iOS dev for math in essay but idgaf anymore. Fuck this shit.

So 11:58 tomorrow ?

I wrote about my love for programming and how awesome all the professors I met at CMU were. Crap. Oh well, I thought it was a creative essay.

Last time I did a math-related EC was in middle school…

Ugh, this is so impossible. I guess that’s what 5% acceptance rate means. Almost impossible.

And yeah, I’ll probably be up at 11:58 refreshing the website whether we know the decision’s going to be up or not.

if you are deferred from SCS, you will be reconsidered again during regular decision right? you are not allowed to reapply to SCS during regular decision only if you are rejected?

I assume so.

mhmm. I talked about hackathons in my CMU essay. Didn’t turn in a research supplement though.

@weiyourenma: yes, that is what a deferral means :)

who are u talking to?

@OlinProspect sorry, edited my post to clarify!

@OlinProspect I’d love to do a hackathon sometime. They sound amazing.

@pevsis: They are.
@sockersocket: It’s cool bro. :)

How’d you guys do on the SAT/ACT?

@pevsis @OlinProspect Carnegie Mellon has an immense presence at hackathons. I organize the CMU bus to PennApps (oldest and one of the biggest student-run hackathons in the country). Admissions are competitive (~25% or so), and they only accept around 400-600 from universities all around the US and a number of international schools (Singapore, Israel, Brazil, etc). CMU has the largest # of people accepted/attending… 65 acceptances for the upcoming Winter event :)

There are also a number of hackathons on campus, some organized by students and others by companies (e.g. Apple). So yeah, if you like hackathons, you will definitely fit in here (Although obviously if you’re not into them, that’s fine too haha)

@OlinProspect A day before decisions, now we’re going through stats. Oh well, anything to fill the time I guess. I had a 780 on Math for the SAT, which is below CMU SCS’s 50% range.

@sockersocket That’s awesome. Well, I guess I know what I’m doing if I get into CMU…

do you guys mind sharing your scores?

Speaking of scores, are we all going to post our stats in this thread after we find out the decisions, or are we going to make a separate one?

Seems like most of you guys are applying to SCS.
@pevsis
New thread~~~~~~~~~!!!

Ok, just made a new thread!
