Carnegie Mellon Governor's School vs AP/EA?

I know CMU has both the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for Sciences and the AP/EA programs and that they are both excellent programs. However, in the chance one get’s into into both programs, which one is more “prestigious,” better for college admissions, challenging, worthwhile, fun, etc.?

This is probably too late, but I attended AP/EA last summer and am going to attend PGSS this summer. I took 15-122 and 21-127 last year. I would recommend that you take AP/EA if you really want to go to CMU because it gives them a real example of your ability taking their courses. If you want a more generally “prestigious” program, I would save the money and go with PGSS because the admissions rate for AP/EA is around 60% while PGSS is ~10%.

@bobasdf @somilgo Hello, I am attending PGSS this summer as well. If either or both of you decides to attend, I’ve created a Facebook group which you could join. It’s just called PGSS 2015

@bobasdf Any commentary on the courses themselves? I know AP/EA are actual college courses while PGSS are rigorous Science courses made for the program. Also, how beneficial is earning the college credit for the future?

@somilgo Congratulations on getting accepted into both!

I would choose PGSS over AP/EA (unless you are considering CMU) as it is seen as more prestigious. Their acceptance rate was only about 11% this year.

Source: I got accepted into PGSS 2015, so you can meet me

For people going this year (2015) I made a meet-up page! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/carnegie-mellon-university/1771630-people-accepted-into-carnegie-mellon-pre-college-ap-ea-meet-up-2015.html?new=1

(for ap/ea sorry)
