Carnegie Mellon Math Placement

So I went and took the BC exam unprepared and only got a 3. I don’t wish to take the AP Exam again (mostly because it will be humiliating–a lot of people will guess that I’m retaking one of the “easiest” APs, the BC exam, but I will do it if I absolutely need to), but I heard there’s a placement exam at Carnegie. If I only got a 3 on the BC Exam, but study hard and do really well on the placement exam, is it possible for me to skip to the highest level of math?

BTW to clarify, I’m not sure if this is different for other majors, but I’m going into engineering.

Every uni. has a math placement exam and typically, even those who took the “easy” BC test are required to sit this. Why would you want to skip to the highest level of math? Wouldn’t you rather make sure you are well grounded in concepts? Correct placement is key, so studying is counter-productive. Go where they place you - they know better than you do what the pace and degree of difficulty of the math sequence is like at CMU.

This is how it words in Dietrich. Not sure about how it is in engineering. https://www.cmu.edu/dietrich/advisory-center/scheduling-classes/placement-exams.html
