I called this morning and they said not to expect a decision until some time in February at the earliest, that they are still making decisions on incoming freshman and haven’t started making the decisions for SAMS yet.
@Tennismomto5 That’s weird. I called two weeks ago and they said they made a decision. They did a similar thing last year where they decided to review over them once more, so that might be happening here.
I will say this however: the admissions staff can be somewhat disorganized. I experienced this as an applicant and it led to some problems, which is why I can understand why you guys are having problems with the app.
I know. When we called last week, they said that they had already started making some decisions and would be making them on a weekly basis. Who knows?!
@Tennismomto5 Yeah, it’s mainly because they just moved their office to a new building on campus a few months ago.
Also, I called Ms. Ty Walton yesterday and she has said that despite a fairly large, and expected, increase in applicants this year, since they’ve received more applications this year compared to last year at this time, the number of accepted applicants will pretty much stay the same (120-130 students). This, unfortunately, means that the acceptance rate will be lower this year than last. I would highly encourage not waiting until the last minute to send in the app and if possible, send in your 1st semester grades and updated test scores if they are good. These should help.
I’m also kind of excited as the plans are underway for our unofficial SAMS Class of 2017 reunion in July!!! We’re planning to stay in New York, not the city, and we might go down to Pittsburgh to visit CMU. Interesting fact: two SAMS alum from 2001, SAMS’s initial year, actually got married a few years ago. So again, this program will result in life-long friendships. We’ll likely have our official CMU SAMS reunion in 2027.
There is no prompt to load the test scores. They are self reported on the app.
@gothamreal I know that, but you should be able to email them an updated report if you took the December SAT/ACT or February ACT and scored better. I find it weird since we had to upload an unofficial test score report last year.
can we upload practice test scores from an SAT prep class because my score from there is significantly higher than my PSAT score which was a 990, my score from their is an 1140
No, it has to be from an official test. @Youngmis123 I need to check because there has to be some way they verify scores.
So once I upload all my supporting documents besides the recommendation that my teacher sent already, they will consider my application complete?
@mathnerd101 Yes.
ok, I have everything uploaded except for my recommendations because I don’t have them but my teacher already sent them electronically… how do I know they received everything?
@mathnerd101 I believe you should receive a confirmation email soon, otherwise, shoot them an email to make sure.
ok thank you
Has anyone been accepted to SAMS yet? let me know please
Hey Everyone,
Acceptances should start trickling in very soon. I’m so excited to see who will receive the first acceptance. If you guys have any questions pertaining to anything about the program itself, feel free to ask.
Did you get info from admissions? They told me the middle of February when I inquired two weeks ago!
@gothamreal I called two weeks ago as well, however, I am 99.99% sure that acceptance notifications will come out this month. Mid-February to March are usually when most acceptances are sent out. You guys can continue to apply if you haven’t already. I actually applied sometime in January last year for SAMS 2017.
I hope results come out this week. I believe last year around this time my oldest son was accepted to their SAMS AP/EA program. Good luck everyone.
I would just like to note one thing. I would highly recommend getting your supplements (LORs, transcript, the essay) done as soon as possible after you submit the initial app.
I applied and already turned in my resume but the list of my EC’s went onto a second page, is that okay? Also, I applied to sams with apea as my second choice, but looking at it now I am already in Calc AB so if I got in would I just go APEA or would they still take me into SAMS.
