Carnegie Mellon University - Engineering

How is the Engineering program here ?

One of the best in the country!

ECE (Electrical & Computer) is the specialty, one of the best around.

BME is only available as an additional major or a minor. Major turn off for some kids looking to concentrate.

All the other engineering disciplines are well-supported and highly regarded too, but it all depends on what you’re looking for in a program.

It’s awesome  Do you have any specific questions?

can you give me some info about the mechanical Engineering here? like programs, activity, or even student run organizations. Thank You

[The CMU MechE website](<a href=“Department of Mechanical Engineering”>Department of Mechanical Engineering).

I’m a MechE, though I’ve only finished freshman year, so I haven’t taken a ton of MechE classes yet. In your first year, you’ll take two different engineering intro classes (the MechE intro would be one of them if you’re interested in declaring MechE)…you declare your major some time around March/April of your first year.

The MechE department is one of the larger departments in CIT - a record number of students declared this year, meaning that my year has about 150 (+/-) students.

Mechanical engineering is definitely a strong program at CMU - if you are interested in anything involving robotics, it’s especially good to combine with a robotics minor.

Good advising in the dept…there are also outside groups like the Society of Automotive Engineers, ASME, etc. that might interest you. There are definitely research opportunities available. Lots of interdisciplinary stuff…

Let me know if you have any more questions!

I’m a chemE not a mechE, but I know a lot of mechEs who are involved with buggy (which is unique to CMU and might also be something to look into)
