Carnegie Mellon University Tepper Vs Emory University Goizeuta

Dear College Confidential members,

I have recently been accepted into the two schools: (CMU and Emory). Not expecting to have been accepted into both wonderful schools, I am now torn between the two and would like to receive some advice from those who have been/ are in similar positions. I wish to major in finance and it is my dream to work in Goldman Sachs one day.

*My apologies for the lack of details and vagueness :frowning:

I am in the same situation as you. I have only toured Emory and not CMU so I’m also unsure, but in either school, you should be able to get recruited by Goldman Sachs as long as you keep your GPA up. Both schools have amazing connections. I remember on my tour of Goizueta at Emory there was a board with the names of everyone in the previous graduating class with their employer or graduate program next to it. There were a handful of Goldmans, JP Morgans, and also a lot of Delta Airlines people, since they have the connection with Delta’s corporate offices in Atlanta. Honestly, the decision will be down to non-academic things like location, campus, social scene and all of that. Best of luck and maybe we’ll be studying with each other next year!

Tour both of them, then (money permitting) go to the school that you liked more. You cannot make a wrong choice.

To be fair though, Tepper is far easier to pronounce than Goizueta. So there’s that.

Hahahaha! That’s hilarious.

Tepper is highly competitive to get into so congrats! Class size is small, as I think they enroll like 50 students per class. Plus CMU is building a brand new Tepper Quad (thanks to David Tepper) which is going to be amazing and CMU grads GET JOBS!
