BlueWolverine1 and sonatarhia, did you submit SAT/ACT score? While it is said to be optional, those who have submitted a high score may still have some advantage as this is probably the most objective criteria to evaluate one’s academic capability.
@sonatarhia thank you
@wantofly I would recommend reading CBD website. We did submit SAT but my son did not practice besides taking a practice test online which I don’t think he even finished. His score was good, he qualified for CTY but definitely not as high as others have posted. However, he did spend a lot of time on his essays and alternative work sample and also has a unique story.
I thought these were helpful

we still don’t know if our son is a finalist until he has time to call but based on previous threads seems likely.
Please keep us posted of your CDB adventure (if you don’t mind)!
@sonatarhia sure will do. My son did call today and confirmed he is a finalist but from what I read winners will not be announced until end of summer so still a long way to go.
If there are previous finalists that can share their experience with interviews, we would appreciate it. All I have read is that it is a conversation and not really interview questions.
Based on what I read, folks have already been receiving emails regarding CDB’s decision. We haven’t got an email yet. Anyone out there haven’t yet received anything? Thank you!
Several people have posted that they have already been notified via email. If you have not been contacted, you may want to email CDB staff to check on your application status.
Thank you!
Did your son receive a semifinal notification before his finalist decision?
@treelover2022 we only received an email to have our son call CBD staff. We did not receive an email about being a semi finalist. During the phone call, they told or son he was a finalist and sent official email that he was a finalist afterwards.
You should really contact them to check status. There are normal several status checks.
@treelover2022 Good luck!
Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve told my child, and he will check soon.
Thank you!
Good luck to your DC @treelover2022 - hope it’s good news!
Thank you, everyone, for your kind wish and reply. We found out that our son made it to the semifinalist but did not make it to the finalist. It’s already a great achievement for him, and we are very proud of him. All the best to @BlueWolverine1! Hope your son become one of the scholarship recipients!
@treelover2022 congrats to your son. I think being eligible to apply and completing the application is already a great accomplishment and being a semi finalist is also a huge accomplishment. Kudos to your child!
You are so kind and sweet! It’s absolutely a great experience just applying for the scholarship. They are a group of great people out there helping young kids reach their goals. Please keep us updated on your son’s great news if you don’t mind.
