freshmen are not allowed to have cars on campus, but how do people who really need to bring cars with them deal with this problem? (I am definitely one of them)

Are there or do you know of any cheap parking lots off-campus?

I know that Transportation & Parking can sometimes grant exceptions (but very rarely) to first-year students that absolutely require a car. However, I must tell you that where you'd be parking is not convenient at all, but rather a 10-15 bus ride just to get to the parking lot where your car would be located. So if you wanna try, call T&P, but it better be a good excuse.

I know some first-year students bring cars to campus and park them in the off-campus area. 9th and 8th avenues do not require parking permits, nor do many of the streets quite north of campus. I caution you about this though. You don't ready access to your vehicle, and, unlike the campus area and lots, the off-campus street parking is not monitored camera-monitored. Additionally, there are times when you just can't find parking on the streets, and might find yourself driving around for a half-hour just looking for a spot (better be a good parallel parker), or find yourself parking ridiculously far from your dorm...
