did anyone who applied for engineering get one?

seems like only the URMs and recruited athletes are getting the likely letters.

okay okay I know I am lame...what is URM??

under-represented minority, meaning a minority group that, in comparison to its representation in the american population, is underrepresented at the college/university.

if indians constitute 75% of the population of the u.s. but only 17% of college students are indian, that is a urm group.

dayobball!! i'm so happy for you, congratulations!!

Well at the bottom of the letter, they said "please contact diversity@cornell.edu." It might be that URMs are getting this letter. Recruits, super nerds, etc might be getting different likely letters with different contact addresses?

yea i was about to ask, a good friend of mine (black female) got one. do white people (white males?) get these too? or is it just to for minorities?

Any URMs going to the school of Human Ecology?

Is Asian (Korean to be precise) considered URM?

i got one too. im too lazy to post my stats.
my SAT werent that good but im liek at the top of my class im a urm attending an all girls school. im not poor, both my parents are doctors. i have alot of ec's. idk

it was a pleasant suprise.

and to teh question above likey letters basically mean u r admitted. they wouldnt waste time/ money sending out letters to those who they plan to reject.

mine was dated march 13 as well.

For those who received likelies, where do you live?

asians aren't urm's. asians aren't underrepresented in higher education.

Asians are ORMs.

Hmm....was this how likely letters were given out in the previous years?

Hrm. My friend definitely isn't a recruited athlete; he's by and large white. Do all the letters have diversity e-mail in them? With the "Cornell is an equal opportunity affirmative action educator and employee" at the bottom? His mother is half native american. According to this page:
The purpose of CU IMAGE shall be to strive to increase the admission and enrollment of underrepresented students, specifically African-American, Latino, Native-American, and bi-racial/multi-ethnic, at Cornell University.
I guess that's the reason why. He's a great guy, and I thought he had a chance at admission; I was just surprised that he was "likely."

I live in Long Island

I'm from Virginia

I don't think it's an academic likely letter. I think it's a minority recruitment likely letter which I guess is simply to keep Cornell in the minds of desirable URMs come April 1st. Most of these ppl who got them (including mine) don't have marvelous stats... but they are deff. getting accepted. Also, this letter isn't departamental, meaning that it's not from a specific college. It's simply from Cornell Univeristy. Perhaps they are giving this letter to accepted URMs across all boards to encourage enrollment.

I got one today, I'm from Florida. .. and I'm a URM

Then has anyone other than a URM gotten a likely letter yet?
