I am a prospective NYU student who is having trouble deciding between these two schools inside of the university, and it seems wherever I look, I can't seem to find the information I'm looking for. So this is my dilemma:
I like science. I also like art, such as photo and video, which is one of the big things which drew me to NYU in the first place. But, I aim for a career in the medical field, specifically as an orthopedic doctor who deals with running injuries. Because there is not a "orthopedic doctor who deals with running injuries" major, and NYU being a big enough reach for me as it is I'm in no place to apply into the specialized major program at CAS, however I've found a high interest in the idea of specializing my focus at Gallatin. However, most of the concentrations I have seen from the student profiles lean much more towards.... well.... just about everything except for science. As I said earlier, NYU is a big reach of mine, so also a main concern is to be able to get in first, and if I apply into a hard program then I can basically wish the .001% chance I have of getting in goodbye. Therefore also my question would be, for a prospective student on the lower end of the acceptance spectrum, which one would be smarter to apply to? I also heard Gallatin was very similar to Hampshire, which is a HUGE turn off for me. I stopped at Hampshire on the way home from a visit at UMass Amherst and it was pretty crazy. But thats besides the point. Help is very much appreciated!

I highly recommend CAS’s Pre-Med program. It’s very strong and well known nationally. You can still pursue your other interests by majoring/minoring or simply taking classes in those fields. Gallatin is great if you absolutely have no clue what you’re interested in or have tons of varied interest, you seem to have a decent direction with what you want.

Just my 2 cents.
