Despite the research I have done for NYU, I'm still not quite sure what the difference is between Gallatin and CAS.

I'm pursuing a liberal arts sort of education and I'm not quite sure which school to apply to. What are the benefits for going to Gallatin and/or CAS?

The thing is that I absolutely love theater and music but I have no intention of applying to Tisch and I was thinking of applying to either schools and possibly take classes from Tisch? (not quite sure if that's possible but yea)

heyy! i’m going to be a sophomore at cas next year. cas is the liberal arts school while gallatin is for individualized study (duh from the names). cas is probably the best choice if you’re looking for a more conventional major or are somewhat undecided. there are several basic requirements (math, science, writing the essay, language, etc) and if you’re really interested in having a liberal arts education (rather than something more specialized) then i’d say consider cas more.

however if you have a particular set of interests that aren’t yet a major but you’d like to formulate into one then consider gallatin. i know there are a lot of students who have interests that cover various schools (ex. photo and journalism) and sometimes they go to gallatin in order to tailor a more specific major. it also has fewer and more flexible basic requirements than cas.

as for taking classes at tisch, unfortunately it’s rather difficult because most of the upper level classes are for majors only. i did ballet pre-professionally in high school and wanted to take class at tisch only to find there weren’t any advanced classes available. however i know that at least for dance, steinhardt (another school to consider if you’re interested in music of theatre) offers a bunch of two credit courses (and others) that non-majors can take.
