So I have heard a lot about the social life at Case Western and most of the responses I have read have been all about either joining a frat to have fun or being miserable. I was wondering if I would have a hard time making friends if I don't party or drink and I like to be social and do nerdy things like read comics and play magic the gathering and stuff. I was also wondering if it would be difficult being openly gay at the school and if people would be accepting. Anything helps

At a school that size there should be some groups for everyone. It’s a bit sleepy but try the Case forum.

I think you should be fine. There are plenty of organizations and clubs around to fit what you’re specifically looking for and I’m sure there will be people just like you in whatever dorm you decide to stay in. And Case is very accepting to gays (or any LGBT member for that matter), so I don’t think you’ll have any trouble there.

I do recommend going into Case with an open mind though. Things like Greek life may not appeal at first, but believe it or not, there are fraternities with members who enjoy the things you mentioned. I’m not saying you should join up, but I think keeping things open to consideration is beneficial to starting out well.

There are many students are between “Fraternity” and “Comic Book Enthusiast”. Talk to people in your dorm, your classes, your clubs and you will find your people.

As far as social life, I would highly recommend looking at Greek life. Literally everyone I know has either looked into it or joined (most of them joined) and there’s so much diversity that there is a fraternity (not “frat”) for everyone.

As far as LGBT-life goes, you literally will not notice anything for the most part. The attitude on campus is basically that you are an awesome person first, and all other things (race, sexual orientation, gender identity etc) second. I also don’t think there’s a single fraternity that doesn’t have at least one LGBT member (to my knowledge that is), CWRU is on the top 25 best colleges for LGBT students for a good reason.

Other big suggestion, if you see people in the dining hall during the first few weeks, ask if you can sit and eat with them! It might be slightly awkward at first, but it’s the best way to make connections and that way you can find more people who are either interested in the same stuff you are, or know people with common interests.

Case Western is very LGBT-friendly, and that includes the Greek community.
