Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: ???
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted at OSU, RD applications for Stanford, UPenn and Cornell but my first choice is OSU

General Comments: If anybody could offer advice why I wasn’t accepted. Maybe I didn’t show interest which would have been easy considering I live 20 minutes away

why are students with high stats being deferred. I mean i think I know why I got deferred 3.6 gpa uw and 4.6 gpa uw and only 28 act but stellar essays/EC…but students with like amazing stats are being deferred. why???

@ivyhopefulebound‌ remember that there is a lot more to an application than stats- recommendations, ECs, interest in the school, common app essay, maybe an interview…Case wants to assemble a well-rounded, interesting, and diverse class and by accepting some high stat kids and deferring some, they get another look in the RD round. If a high stat applicant is truly interested in attending Case, and not simply thinking of it as a safety, they now have the opportunity to express that interest and add any additional info. You will also see some high stat kids add to these posts such comments as “I wasn’t going anyway”, or “I’ve already been accepted at Univ. X so who cares”. CWRU usually does a good job of ascertaining true interest and this year they even added an ED option for those who had high stats and truly did have Case as their #1 choice. Admissions is not an exact science and I’m sure each school has their own way of trying to admit the appropriate class for their school.

@ivyhopefulebound wrote: " but students with like amazing stats are being deferred. why???"

Case Western Reserve Common Data Set for 2013-2014.

75% of the admitted students have stats in this range or higher:
SAT CR: 720
SAT Math: 760
ACT Composite: 33
ACT Math : 34
ACT English : 34

Clearly, CWRU admitted more students with higher stats.
You only saw what? 344 comments in this thread, and not all comments were from students who were rejected or deferred.
In 2013, CWRU had over 18,000 first year applicants. Keep that in mind when you read this thread.

@LanaHere‌
Those numbers are the 75th percentile benchmarks, meaning 75percent are below those thresholds and 25 percent of enrolling students above. Not the other way around.

LOL, quite the clarification.

The CWRU website is vague about the gpa needed to retain the scholarships. Does anyone know what GPA must be maintained to hold onto the University Scholarship?

CWRU was a reach school for my daughter…we were excited that she was accepted!

A lot of posters here mention scholarship numbers…her aid was in the form of a grant - very generous, but not the same as a scholarship in my mind.

Does anyone have any idea on the stability of a grant over 4 years @ CWRU??

For grants I believe you need to fill out financial paperwork each year to show you still qualify.

@adkdad I only was given grant money as well. Like @singermom4 said, every year I think we’ll have to fill out paperwork to requalify.

My question is if we can be given a scholarship after freshman year of college if we get a certain GPA?

@singermom4 It looks like the GPA requirement to maintain scholarship may be 3.0. This is what Case requires for their full tuition scholarships. Here is the link where I found this info: <a href=“Alexander Treuhaft Scholarship | Case Western Reserve University | CollegeXpress”>http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/scholarships/alexander-treuhaft-scholarship/12696/</a></p>

On the Case website, it says student must remain “in good standing”. I looked up Academic Standing regulations, which states 2.0 and 12 credits for the semester.

http://bulletin.case.edu/undergraduatestudies/scholarshipretention/</a></p>

http://case.edu/ugstudies/academic-policies/academic-standing-regulations.html</a></p>

Thanks for both responses - it makes sense for the full tuition scholarship to require a higher GPA. An interesting note - I looked up the common data set link posted a few posts back and there is no data for the spread of GPA data - only for ACT and SAT. Is this normal for private institutions?
