<p>I have a friend who had a hard to choosing between Case Western over Purdue.</p>
<p>My brother went to Case Western, and I go to Purdue. They’re very different in terms of size and feel. Have you visited both schools? Academics depends on what you plan on studying. As far as city lifestyle, (you won’t find any at Purdue), but student body at Purdue is much larger than that of Case Western, and a huge percentage of international students make up a pretty diverse group of interesting people.</p>
<p>Financially, Case is a bit more expensive but it all depends on scholarships and which school you feel you fit in.</p>

<p>Purdue isn’t really in a urban center… then again Cleveland, Ohio isn’t really the greatest city either. </p>
<p>^as Xtreme said, Case is better overall, but it also depends on what major you’re interested in pursuing.</p>

<p>D ended up with the same choices. We never felt she had a bad choice just very different choices. Purdue is large enough that the undergraduate population dominates the feel of the University. I think engineering takes up about the same proportion of students at both schools, you’ll just have six times as many at Purdue. Because of the location, the surrounding area and the school focuses on these undergrads. Case actually has more grad students than undergrad. Because of the make up of the University and the Hospital the surrounding area caters to a more “mature” population. I know a handfull of people who go to Case and they love it. They were very driven high school students and that helps them at Case. I don’t know anyone who currently attends Purdue but I know several alumni and they all loved their time at Purdue. In the end D ended up choosing Purdue. She felt comfortable on their campus from the moment she stepped on it. She also attended a summer engineering program there and her main impression was that whe wished it were longer. One thing I will mention is that both schools have pretty large endowments for their types of institutions. In my observation it translates into very well taken care of campuses. Some others we visited seemed rather unkempt and disheveled.</p>
<p>When attending some of the Big-10 schools, as far as the cities/towns that hold the schools, they are similar…well, at least the ones I know about: Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin. Pretty much when the 6pm news is on TV, whatever the went on at the school that day will be the top story for that town. Lansing (MSU), Ann Arbor (U-M), Columbus (OSU) and Madison (Wisky) are very similar. I know Columbus is the biggest but that was because it claimed many of its suburbs years ago (unlike Cincinnati and Cleveland) to boost population.</p>
<p>Those are the 4 I know about since I grew up in Ohio and attended both MSU and Wisky and Ann Arbor was visited many times during my MSU years. I have heard similar reports about Bloomington (Indiana), Minneapolis/St. Paul (U-Minn) and West Lafayette (Purdue).</p>

<p>Also, isn’t Purdue a better engineering school than Case? I know Case is still a good school though.</p>
<p>I’m from Cleveland, but I honestly never considered Case. Cleveland just doesn’t strike me as a college town haha</p>
<p>Purdue has to be a better engineering school than case in all areas except biomed. The connections that Purdue has with industry are amazing.</p>

<p>Purdue - like all great and large schools - has connections not just because of the alumni network and the like but also because of its size (volume). More graduates obviously means more connections and more recognition. </p>
<p>Case in point (pun not intended :)). At work nearly half, probably more, of us are from Purdue in one shape or form. Out of all the engineers and managers I know of one engineering manager that went to Case. </p>
<p>Having said this, the two schools are very different in terms of size and features so it’s really the dreaded ‘fit’ that may be as important as anything else. Case’s main advantage BME wise (and I think Purdue is ranked higher even in BME) may be the medical school / Cleveland Clinic / etc. </p>
<p>If only Purdue could figure out a way to cough up money for a medical school in West Lafayette…</p>
