Case Western vs WUSTL

I was recently accepted to WashU and Case Western. WashU is known to be better academically and I want to go there as my ultimate goal is to become a physician. Case western, however, is offering me 30k/yr and WashU nothing. I am wondering if WashU is worth the investment; could y'all give me your opinions please?

First of all, congratulations.

You’ve asked an impossible question – the answer of which will depend on family circumstances and other factors.

FWIW – with my D last year had a 25k scholarship at Tulane, with no scholarship acceptances at Northwestern and Wash U. She chose NU, and almost certainly would have chosen Wash U over Tulane. Not exactly your choice, but hope it helps.

Son accepted to Case with $25K scholarship for 4 yrs. Will choose Georgetown (no scholarship or FA) over Case for now. Also premed. However, will still weigh other options still pending.

I think it depends - to attend Wash U, will you need to go into debt? If so, and if medical school is the ultimate goal, then you should factor that in. Both are excellent schools and you will get a great education at either place.

Also, if you are used to being a top student, be ready to be humbled a bit. At Wash U you may not be at the top anymore.

As I’m sure you know, for both applying to medical school and once your a doctor, the prestige of your undergrad school doesn’t mean a whole lot. GPA/MCATs are overwhelmingly more important applying to med school in which case WUSTL may even be a disadvantage, because of the competition. For all practical purposes, Case looks like the better deal; however college is where you will spend the next four years of your life and you want to pick a school you can see yourself grow in which is, well, priceless.
