MiPerson80-Are you really smart enough to go to or somehow be affiliated with Notre Dame? I ask this because it is not very bright to make statements railing against one of your school's chief benefactors. The College of Science at Notre Dame probably sends more of its grads to Georgetown Med than any other med school in most years. If Geogetown Med were to start taking GWU or NYU or Tufts premeds on the margins, Georgetown could leave a small stranded Irish army in any given year. If Georgetown were to ever collude (and I am sure they never would) with the other 3 Jesuit medical schools, they could take Notre Dame's high 70s med school acceptance rate and reduce it to well under the national average. In these circumstances and with the historic antipathy that both Georgetown and Notre Dame have faced as Catholic insititutions and fight each day, what you are doing is really ill-advised and stupid. If you are going to be ****ed at someone don't pick on the guys who are giving you such a great amount of love. You Need your relationship with Georgetown and Georgetown wants its relationship with Notre Dame.

Notre Dame's endowment was $6.2 billion at the end of FY08. It's hard to say where it's at now since everyone is getting tanked and Malpass did say that to be positive by the end of June would be a small miracle. That being said he is a genius, he had us diversified overseas and made some good buys on gold speculation, so Notre Dame will probably fare better than many. This is the man that orchestrated a 54% return while the tech bubble was bursting, I'd trust no one else with my money.

I don't know anything about Georgetown's investments, but their portfolio is much smaller, though they aren't going to be in bankruptcy any time soon. If nothing else they could fire sale their property assests for liquidity, though that would be like Cuba going to the IMF. They've already halted construction on a new science building next to the McDonough School of Business because they couldn't get credit.

(Here's a fundamental difference between Notre Dame and Georgetown financially, Georgetown was relying on credit to build their science center and when the market tightened up they couldn't get it and had to stop. Notre Dame has all of its construction costs covered so it doesn't have to worry about the market, construction just keeps on rolling: Ryan Hall, Geddes Hall, Stinson-Remick, new stadia, Law School, Eddy Street, Innovation Park, Purcell Pavilion. Malpass also sold $150 million in bonds in one week in January to get enough cash on hand to deal with any contingencies for the rest of the year. ND is in much better financial straits.)

To be fair let's remember that previous to World War II both Georgetown and Notre Dame were pretty much just boarding schools. And that argument about the Georgetown Medical School and Notre Dame is a bit of a red herring (and it makes no sense). Chances are that even if Notre Dame students were purposely turned down by Georgetown, they will be admitted to another med school somewhere. Georgetown Med is a good school, being turned away from there isn't a death sentence.

As for Madeleine Albright, I don't think I can ever forgive her for telling the Sudanese Mukhabarat to suck on it when they were trying to help us nail down al-Qaeda after the embassy bombings in 1998. What did Clinton do? He launched cruise missiles at an aspirin factory in Khartoum. No wonder that Bashir doesn't care what the United States says now about the janjaweed hacking people in Darfur. The best part about it? Our new ambassador to the United Nations, which essentially holds Sudan's fate in its hands with the ability to suspend the current ICC investigation, was the Assistant SOS for African Affairs in 1998: Susan Rice. That's the (not particularly inspiring) change that the President is bringing. Though I must give him credit for sending George Mitchell to Israel-estine, if anyone can do enough hanging out to strike a deal it's that guy.

But remember, like most Notre Dame students, I don't care about the real world...allegedly.

If you want to go to a good Catholic school go to ND if you want to go to a good school go to Georgetown but hang on to your faith!!
