Hey everyone, I’m in the class of 2016 and I saw this topic so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask me.

@DelphicOracle, how is the Financial Aide at CUA? I have heard that it is not that great but I have not received my need based packet yet and I am so nervous!

Johana13 - My son was accepted EA & received the $1K alumni scholarship & $18K in merit along with nice need based.

@Kat2013 I received 17k in merit… but I am still waiting for the need-based aide because my fafsfa was filed for verification and CUA is taking FOREVER to reply. But I am nervous about the need based aide. I have a really low EFC and I have heard that CUA is not very good with need based FA? Do you mind sharing your stats with me so that I can get somewhat of an idea of what I would be awarded with? Because as of right now, I have no clue.

Johana13 - stats are subjective. My son has a 3.3 GPA, 2000 on SAT & 27 ACT, but fabulous leadership EC’s & wonderful letters of rec. He also applied EA, interviewed & kept in contact with his Admit Counselor so they know he wants to go.

To be honest I don’t know a whole lot about the financial aid as compared to academics and social life because my parents are taking care of my tuition. I can tell you a little about my experience though. Basically my parents have my tuition cut in half thanks to a combination of scholarships, loans, and aid. I know a lot of people who are in a similar situation as me so I don’t think it should be too hard to receive some sort of financial aid or a scholarship. In fact I don’t think I know one person who is paying full tuition.

I am still waiting My parent’s cannot really pay more than about 5k per year for tuition… and that is going out of their EFC because its 0001. Going to DC is a reach for me not because of grades, but because of $$. At my state school (University of Florida) I would come out with about 20k in debt for all 4 years… including 1 year abroad… which is really good. But I do not want to stay in Florida. I have wonderful ECs and amazing grades at a competitive H.S. My GPA is actually above average, 3.77UW 5.1W, #2 in a class of 105. My test scores is what is bringing me a little down though. but IDK, I’ll just wait and see. i really wanted to go to Odyssey day but since I do not know how much money they are going to give me yet, I couldn’t go. This whole college admissions process is such a pain.

I feel your pain. The whole process is stressful of applying, getting decisions, taking care of scholarships, etc. is stressful. I hope everything works out for you. Wish I could help.

@DelphicOracle-any insight would be appreciated

@hawkpop - insight into school spirit and activities? to be honest i don’t think there is a lot. sometimes you can go to the athletic games but we’re a D3 school so there really isn’t much school spirit when it comes to sports.
for activities, we have some clubs. i only participate in the one specific to my degree (classics). a lot of the clubs are religious or service related. we have one frat and one sorority but more are being added in the future. there is a service fraternity that my friend is in and she seems to enjoy it, overall. i think for clubs and activities it just depends on what your interests are. if you’re into religion, then great, you have more than one option when it comes to finding a club.
about once a week there’s events on campus that are sponsored by residence life or campus ministry and they can be kind of fun. just yesterday there was a hot dog roast with ice cream and a volleyball net was set up. RAs set up little events in the lounges of the dorms but i’m never able to go so i couldn’t tell you how popular they are. think i about covered everything. for me, my activities occur off-campus, in the bustling city!
