I have a 4.1 gpa, I've never done anything like this, but I needed a calculator for the SAT so someone left their backpack and I stole their calculator and it got caught on camera..

I am crying so much right now, and want to die because If i get suspended MY FUTURE WILL BE OVER.

What do I do?? Is there anything I can do or say to my principle??

I honestly believe i have a mental disorder..... but would telling them that may work against me?

1) CALM DOWN
2) obviously stealing isn’t a good thing, but i don’t think it will kill you unless your counselor suddenly hates your guts, or writes in a rec that you sabotaged someone else’s test by stealing their calculator. that wouldn’t be too good.
3) nothing short of a felony can completely kill your chances for top schools.
4) be mature with receiving your punishment, take what they get you.
5) after you get your punishment, see a doctor about anxiety medication.

and just fyi, you don’t actually need a calculator for the sat. and your integrity is worth more than a good score on a standardized test.

Did this happen at the testing center just before the test? If so, you deprived another test taker of the use of their calculator on the SAT and that I would find despicable behavior on your part. If this happened at your school a day or two before the test I find your actions incomprehensible. When I got my first calculator in college, a TI SR-10, it cost $100 dollars which was a lot of money in 1973 and you had to be on a waiting list to get one. Now you can walk into any Walmart and obtain a very powerful scientific calculator for about $15. I have no way of knowing whether you have a mental disorder or not but you did do something that is difficult to comprehend.

I do not know how your school will handle this but suspension, if not expulsion, is a real possibility since you committed a crime. If disciplinary action is taken against you it will go on your record and any college you apply to will find out about it. Theft of other students’ property is a major problem at most colleges so they will take this offense very seriously. I am not saying you will not get into college but frankly, your chances of acceptance at most schools are now in serious jeopardy.

Here is your worse case scenario - you will end up going to CC, and if you keep your nose clean and do very well there, you can end up at a good 4 year college after that. Yes, you screwed up. Now you can let it ruin the rest of your life, or you can work with the options that are left to you, and succeed. I hope you make a better decision than the day you chose to steal that calculator.

Coffeecup, your life will not be ruined. Try to keep perspective.

I will say this is probably a wakeup call to help you understand honesty will get you furthest in life. In other threads you’ve said you’ll do whatever you need to, including lying about your race, to get where you want to go. You need to learn to value truth and honesty, that’s what will get you places.

You really need to chill. You stole a calculator…that happens all the time. Unless you go to a small, strict private school, I doubt you’ll be suspended or anything as severe as that. Return the calculator and explain that you were desperate. Apologize. No need to mention a mental disorder or that you “can’t afford a calculator” (couldn’t you have just asked one of your math teachers to borrow a classroom calculator for the test?).

This is one of the sickest stories ,i have ever heard…Stealing a calculator or even changing your race for the univerities’s sake…Chill out ,your future clearly depend on you,the university is only a small part of it,your real future will be considered when applying for a job or so,there you are going have to be honest and never do something similar. This is your wake-up call as a previous poster said ,but dont take anything for granded ,if this will be reported ,i fear you stand no chance at all good univeristies not only the ivy league…":(
