<p>No... it's not a college acceptance.</p>

<p>The front page of this morning's Houston Chronicle has a story that Rice University received a gift from an anonymous alumnus: $20 million that is going directly to the School of Humanities. Rice has always been known for science and engineering, but now they are trying to hire more faculty and strive for excellence in other fields, with "an initial focus in the areas of philosophy and the Americas".</p>

<p>I'm not an alumna, and my son isn't even applying to Rice, but I'm glad to hear this as a Houstonian.</p>
