honestly not super surprised - ik my gpa is low
but more interesting is some of the info included on the deferral letter:
“Admission to Colorado College was extremely competitive due to a record number of early applications this year. Choosing from among more than 5,000 applicants was a difficult task, and we regret that we could not admit many highly qualified candidates. The Admission Committee defers students who show promise for success at Colorado College, and we will give your file careful consideration during our next round of application review. Last year, of the roughly 500 students who opted into our deferral process, we offered admission to approximately 30 percent.”
They have classes of less than 550 from what I found online, and 5000 early applicants alone??? Crazy. Also a 30% acceptance rate for deferrals seems really high, so at least that is kind of encouraging.
My daughter was deferred as well. (1420 on SATs, 4.0 UW GPA, lots of ECs including three sports) Everyone who has been posting has amazing stats and I’m sure will find terrific colleges, whether it’s at CC in deferral or somewhere else!
I applied EA and have not yet heard back from CC, and I was wondering if this is normal for decisions to be sent out at different times? If anyone has any prior experience with this process, do you know when I should expect to hear back given that some people got their news today?
accepted ea - 1430 sat
my school doesn’t give a gpa but I’ve had basically straight As except for an A- in AP CS A junior year and maybe one or two A-s freshman and sophomore year
D21 accepted with Leadership Scholarship! 4.1 UW GPA, submitted ACT and three AP scores. Lots of leadership in ECs, 3 sport athlete and has a job. She never interviewed. Loved the school but she will not attend as she was also accepted into her ED school! Best wishes to all!
Accepted!
If anyone wants my stats I can give them but tbh I’m average enough. I am passionate about my extracurriculars tho!
As much as I LOVE CC, I didn’t receive enough financial aid so unfortunately I don’t think I will be attending. However, I hope someone deserving, kind, and hardworking will get my spot
It should be noted that more than 200 class of 2024 students admitted, opted to take a gap year. Some, even after they had arrived on campus this past fall. The deadline was extended due to Covid, and many students who did not plan to take the Gap year, ended up doing so.
I don’t have statistics, but I have to imagine this is a record number, and as such, impacts the openings for class of 2025.

My daughter received an EA acceptance to Colorado College.
Here are her stats:
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.0 and 5.2 weighted
ECs: Girl Scout Gold Award, National Scholastic Gold winner in writing, Young Arts honorable mention in writing, published poetry in national journals, Ambassador at her school, 4-year varsity tennis (2-time state champions).
Also, she attends a public arts school that is difficult to get into.
She probably nailed the essays, so that must have helped.
Deferred
Applied Econ
3.8 Unweighted, 4.3 Weighted GPA
34 ACT
Two Sport Varsity Athlete - all four years for tennis
Plenty of other ECs - mostly around volunteering
Replying late because I just found this thread oops. I was deferred EA, applied test optional for environmental science. Stats:
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.54 W (top 1% of class at a competitive public high school)
8 AP Classes, all 4s and 5s so far (taking 4 senior year)
ECs: President of my school’s Environment Club, founded a composting program in my school district, competitive rock climber for 7 years (trains 20+ hours per week), member of NHS, Global Citizenship Certificate program, Intersectional Feminism Club member, 200+ hours of community service on unique projects, research internship at the Boston Museum of Science (canceled due to Covid), Boston College Women in Science program, student mentor, karate instructor, climbing coach, and camp counselor, won a few local/school awards.
I thought my essays were extremely strong (of all the schools I applied early to, I thought my CC essays were the best). I also thought my interview went really well. It all worked out because I ended up getting into Dartmouth ED, but I was a little surprised at the deferral, especially because my stats were above those of many people from my high school who had gotten in.
You likely looked too good for them! We have seen many top students getting deferred from matches and safeties - surely an attempt at yield protection for these schools.
