CC Forums Back Online

My iPad application worked just fine until you went offline last night. It does NOT work now. Any chance this is going to be fixed?

How do I get to the list of my posts? All I am offered is a list of threads I started- all of which are old and useless. Is there some workaround here, some way to make this format work for our individual prefs? I don’t need a series of scrolling photos dominating my front page, don’t want to have to check each forum type (Admissions vs Parents, eg) to find where I was.

@lookingforward:

Scroll up to the top of the page where it says “search forum”. Then, click on the dropdown menu next to the magnifying glass and click “advanced forum search.” Type your name into the author section of the search parameters, and voila! Although, like with the old format, it still only shows your last 200 posts.

The posts in threads are no longer numbered!

And there still isn’t an easy way to quote other posts…which every other forum in the modern world has!

Mom2, you’re cute.
Mets, that;s a lot of steps to get back to where I was.

Mom2, we discourage one-click quoting for two reasons. First, forums that have that feature often get threads filled with posts that are five paragraphs of quote and one line of commentary. Makes threads long and hard to read. The second reason is that all too often heavy quoters are frustrated debaters trying to refute every point in someone else’s post. That isn’t the sort of discussion we want to encourage.

Much better to simply express your own thoughts, referencing another post by member name and number (yes, we know the numbers are missing right now!) when necessary for clarity.

We are looking into the iPad/mobile issue. The CC App in the App Store and Google Play is currently not compatible, but the mobile skin is supposed to be very friendly to iOS devices.

I did find that if I click on my name, then on the left side of the page, there is a “replies” count, which will take me in the right direction. But another member pointed out that next to our names, the globe button will also get us in. If there are instructions, hope to find them.

Opened up the forums on my iPad - I’m seeing an app-like list of top-level forums vs. the web display with featured topics, sidebar navigation, etc. Is that what you iPad folks are seeing too?

iPads are tricky - while most consider them mobile devices, they have enough screen real estate that a phone-style display seems kind of spartan. What seems to be lacking is a “web view” link or similar to force the regular browser skin. We’ll check into that.

Monydad, got a link to the truncated post? Haven’t seen one of those yet.

I can say the mobile site is very NOT friendly to Android users.

:(( Can you put up a button where we can opt back into the old style CC? You used to do that a few years ago when you made your first transition. You shouldn’t have to ask people to be patient – the transition should be additive and helpful. In the old format, there was a “Discussion” tab and a list of everything so I could pick and choose where I might want to go. Now, there is no “Discussion” tab and I can’t get to places where I used to go. I am stuck just hoping when I click on “latest posts” that someone from one of those old groups will have posted so I can click on the residual group and maybe get home again . . .

+1
(+1000 really)

Roger, I’m having NO trouble accessing CC through Safari on my iPad. The CC iPad application, however, is NOT working at all. Doesn’t even load. I get a message telling me imcant get there from here (don’t remember the exact working). I used this iPad application on THIS iPad until 10:00 last night when you went offline to “fix” this site. The iPad application did NOT come back online whn the CC forum came back through the browser.

Ok…when I hit the IPad application icon on my iPad this is what I get:

Cannot Connect to Forum

This forum is either restricting access from CC or the installed CC plug in is not working. Please contact your forum administrator.

So…I’m contacting you! As an FYI, I uninstalled and reinstalled the application today. It made NO difference. And as I said…this was working just fine 24 hours ago.

The mobile app is currently disabled and is a high priority to be fixed.

Thank you dbraud! I appreciate someone FINALLY answering this question.

I rarely subscribe to threads; I just come back and read the ones I’m interested in. Now, my email box is filling up because I am receiving notifications when people post in threads I posted in. I really don’t want to get dozens of emails a day. Is there any way to stop this?

Jonri, click on your name and then Edit Profile. You’ll see notification options there.

When I log in or just try to view the forum using Goggle chrome with my laptop I get a screen that says error-bad request, guru meditation. What is going wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks.
