Bear in mind that for a huge number of colleges, 1600 still is the perfect score. Many of them never look into the writing section.

As far as what is a good score out of 2400, I have often wondered that myself. The way I look at it is by percentile. What percent of students in the nation and in my state scored higher than me that day? If it's 2% of the nation and I want to go to a small LAC, then I probably won't be competing with them for admission. I wouldn't say that 90% is the bottom (or near the bottom) of a good percentile. Think about it: if they choose 100 people from all over the nation and you were among them and standing in a room with them, you would be in the top ten. 80% might not be good enough for the top colleges, but even scoring better than 80% of the nation is a great accomplishment.

I guess that works....

This thread confuses me.

How could you score so high yet not know about percentiles and how your scores compare to the general population of test-takers? Why are you asking for an objective and truthful measure of "good"?

A lot of these high SAT scorers asking about retakes confuses me too. I guess these threads prove that SAT's dont measure intelligence, or they are filled with exagerators. And I might have misspelled that. Oh well.

Okay. 1600 / 2360. I am not retaking.

And I'm a pretty horrible overachiever.

I was rather dejected when I got a 2040 after I started becoming a regular at CC. When I first decided to take the SAT (just as a practice), I was trying to just beat the highest PSAT scorer in my grade (198). Sheesh, it's amazing what CC can do to ya!

okay, no...

I asked because most of my information of standardized tests comes from this site and it is usually correct -> except for what is a good score.

That is why I asked, not because I wanted to confuse you guys...

@marlin33 - if you think I'm stupid, good for you...:)

marlin, don't worry about, she always does that to me.

ok no more fighting and bickering, ill lay it out straight and simply. I have already taken my SAT and have been accepted to my schools, so i am a reliable source. when i was taking my sat last year, an 1700 was considered "ok". 1800=good. 1900=solid score. 2000=in the pool for serious consideration from colleges. anything above 2100 is great, even for harvard. if you get 2200 and over don't retake unless your gonna improve by 80 or more. when colleges look at a 2200 and 2250 its basically the same thing, it will only hurt that you took the test twice or more and only improved by 20 or 50 points.

and about the superscore thing, most private colleges will let you mix and match scores. what i mean by that is if you score: math-700, reading-400, writing-800. then next month you score:math 600, reading -800, writing-300. the colleges will only look at your highest scores from each category, so instead on scoring 1900 and 1700, your composite score will be 2300. and most public schools will only take the highest score from ONE sitting, so they will take the 1900 score.

UC's don't do superscore.

Why do you even care naidu90? You got a 2310! Give it a rest. And by the way, I really can only think of one reason you would be doing this...

and what would that be...?

Well, you have a 2310 asking if an 1800 is okay or if a 2200 is okay. Why would you care if you already 110 points higher? More importantly, what do you think people are going to say? No one's going to openly state that a 2200 is a bad score (and it by no means isn't) so...

lol, cc has messed me up score-opinion-wise too. I was talking to someone about SATs and said my score wasn't that great. then she actually asked what it was, and it turned out I was almost 1000 points ahead of here. I felt a bit bad then.
I blame it all on CC.

This thread is like asking whether a Toyota Camry is a good car or not...when you drive a goshdanged Ferrari.

haha ashraf that metaphor made me laugh.... i drive a camry, and my steering wheel makes noises haha :(

I can't believe that this thread is still alive and kicking...

Oh well carry on!
Just watch, it will die right now.
