CC in-state freshman to U of Michigan

Do you think I have a shot?

In-state Community College:
GPA after one semester: 3.8-4.0
Credits after one semester: 20

Classes:I'm taking the hardest possible while adhering to a list of transferrable courses. Eventually, I'm going to be an electrical engineering major, but I may have to transfer into the LSA first due to lack of credits.

Chem120: A
Calculus 1: A
Calculus 2: A
English 110: 3.0-4.0 <-----grade currently in jeopardy
History of China: A

No EC's of any kind.
Recommendations: Are these absolutely necessary? I mean, I go to class, study, and go home. Anything more personal than that is awkward IMO.

High School Stats:

ACT: 30

No honors/AP.
GPA: 1.9

EC's: A serviceable, if lackluster, list of typical high school activities.

Other stuff:

Race: Asian ( native to US though )
No financial aid needed. <--- But it wouldn't hurt.

Also: I can code. Graphics programming has been my hobby since early high school, and I can scramble together a makeshift portfolio over the course of winter break if Michigan would look at it. Nothing "elite", but I'm probably more advanced than most freshman.

I plan on taking 20 credit hours this winter and summer, and will have exhausted all the math and engineering courses offered at my school by this fall, so I have a legit reason to be applying now. ( Although you could make a case that the reason I'm credit rushing IS so that I can get into Michigan faster... But don't tell them that. )

Thank you for your time.

hey! I'm from Ann Arbor (but I don't go to U of M). Michigan is a BIG school and they don't take many people off their freshman waitlists but transfer admissions could be different. Your credentials sound good. Just show them that you have a lot of interest and work hard on the app!

You should definitely apply, but I'm guessing you'll need two solid years of cc to overcome that high school gpa.

^^^ Yeah, that's kinda what I thought. The weird thing about what I'm doing is that I'll have 60 transferrable credits done by the end of the summer, and I have no clue whether or not that would be a factor towards admissions for next fall.

Well, if you'll have 60 credits...then you should be okay. 60 credits completed means you're applying as a junior transfer, that should be enough of evidence that you're ready.

But UMich won't know about all 60. They will only get to make their decision using my first semester grades and possibly my second semester grades if they ask for them. My question is if I make it clear that I intend to take a summer semester, will they factor that into their decision, or will they just hang me out to dry for fall 2007, and ask me to re-apply for the winter semester. If that is the case, then I could end up just sitting around at home for a few months, which is not what I want to be doing.

I'd mention that you plan to.
