CC members willing to tailgate HOMECOMING

Okay I know we are ahead of the curve, but I think that is what we need to be, since this is a fluid community. I am wondering if there is a desire to have a tailgate for Homecoming...looking at the schedule it looks like Oct 17th against UVA. We have used stubhub in the past.

For those of you who are parents of 13, please realize, parents weekend doesn't have a football game(usually Columbus Day). You will basically be going for show and tell. Homecoming is much more fun! Either case you need to reserve a room by Aug/Sept.

Bullet and I live @60 min (VA side) from UMD, I have no problem doing wall to wall air mattresses if you want to make it a cheap weekend(no hotel). Only tolls: no animal allergies (2 dogs, 1 cat) and bottle of wine or 6 pack of beer or your own drink! Upping the ante Bullet makes a mean breakfast,(eggs, pancakes, hash browns, bacon, sausage, etc) and we live on 10 acres, so we don't worry about the neighbors!

We can take 3 in our car.

Starting the list:
Bulletandpima :4

Are you in Astro (will say Astro gets the guest bdrm...since she has 2 at UMD, if no go for her, than first come first serve for the queen bed! :))

I’ll put in a an 80% positive/tentative yes. We live in southern VA so not too stressful a trip and I’m sure I can find a hotel somewhere in DC/MD. We’ll bring tailgating food and equipment as needed since we’ll be driving. Great idea, Pima…thanks for starting it. DS and DH are big football fans so probably will be happy to have an event to celebrate!

Now we just need to start practicing our cheers…2 x4 is half of 16, ALL for Maryland …a LEAN, Lean, lean…

Bullet and I took the kids for homecoming a couple of years ago, and we also know where we want to sit to get on ESPN.

Darn…we are coming (from CA) the week before… :(

We can probably make it. We had season’s tickets last year but will buy as we go this year. Parking by the business school has been great for us ($15 and don’t need a pass). It’s also adjacent to Wicomico for all the Ho Hummer parents.

Oct 17th is my birthday, so that would be a pretty awesome birthday

count me in

Hey—we get the guest room!!! Cool!!! I’m thinking that we’ll be looking for every opportunity to get to MD that we can, come fall. Count Astromom (and probably -dad) in!!!

We just got through the gala graduation thing from this weekend. After 2 and a half days of winding-down (i.e. all systems completely stopped and I just slept), I’m eyeing the collection of empty wine bottles on the counter (including an empty bottle of Dom P!), and the prospect of endless dishwasher runs, I’m nearly ready to get going. Nearly. All the houseguests have gone (including my mom, who was here for 3 weeks) and astrosister and her astrobf who drove down from CP for the weekend.

fun to have something besides a really quiet house to look forward to this fall :)

Yes you get the guest room (or also known as DS’s when he is not here) you will feel perfectly at home with the terp paraphanelia!

So here’s the count: please fill in the number
Bulletandpima : 4
Centh:
Maximus:
Shayman:
Astro: 2

Now we have to start discussing how we will handle getting seats together. We have done stubhub in the past. The have great seats and prices. I am willing to buy all of the tickets, but request you send a check to me prior to buying…I don’t want to be arrested for scalping!

3 for us, 4 if my stepson comes too. I don’t have a problem with sending a check ahead…PM me your address and the prices. :D

So here’s the count: please fill in the number
Bulletandpima : 4
Centh: 3 or 4
Maximus: 2 or 3
Shayman: 1 (?)
Astro: 2

Grand total= 12-14
p.s. we usually sit in the student section for the game

I am sooo :frowning: that I will be missing this and missing the opportunity to meet all of you. Any chance of meeting during move-in??

jnrsmom, I can’t really plan for move-in day because S’s probably going to have to move in late. :(

returning students move in on Sat. I think honors, scholars, and gemstone move in Thursday, reg fresh move in Friday and returning on Sat. So I doubt we will all meet up…poor astro she has 2 different dates, I guess she’ll be staying over for a couple of nights.

Since Astrogirl’s evil twin has come out during the past two move-ins, I’ve decided that she’s going to mostly be on her own this time, and I’ll be helping LilAstro move in. Far less drama there. (or so I say now!!!) haha, Astro will have a single at St. Mary’s, and most of her stuff is already in College Park. She gets to move in Wednesday (she’s an apartment leader this year in the language house), so we’ll be doing a DC weekend, I think. Since I suspect both of them will be ready to bid us adieu by Thursday or Friday anyway, we’ll be off to celebrate our anniversary and our empty-nestedness… :/

AstroMom…we will arrive on Wednesday, move D. in on Thursday and hang around until Saturday. We will be at the Marriott (thank goodness for points!) My guess is that D will not want to see us on Thursday after move-in so we will be free Thursday night. Friday will probably go to DC, then we leave Saturday night.

Anyone there on Thursday night up for dinner??

DS moves in on Saturday. However, since we are close to UMD, we are more than happy to go out to dinner. Thursday night at Pentagon Row? Talked to Bullet, he works at the Pentagon and if you want he will try to get you all in for a personal tour if you want. The Pentagon Memorial is beautiful and very heart touching. Little known fact if the bottom of the bench is close to the Pentagon they were on the plane, if it is on the opposite ned they will were in the Pentagon. Pentagon Row has a mall and many restaurants. i.e. Champs is a place we can meet and the metro is right there, so you can ride the metro. It should take about 30 minutes via the metro to get there.

My other suggestion is Chinatown, since it is by the Spy Museum. Or Hard Rock because it is by Ford’s Theatre.

I am open to any other suggestion. I would prefer not Friday night because we will be loading the Denali with DS’s crap for Sat. a.m. I am sure he will have us going by 7 a.m. so we can have moved in to his dorm and in time for the game!

I can’t believe they are having them move in and a home game UGGGH

Luckily for us DS is in New Leonardtown so no elevators and only 2 floors HOORAY :D!

Okay I don’t want this thread to get lost and it not occur. So now my question is who is driving and who will be in the hotel? The game is 10/17 UVA…the YAHOOS! I actually can’t believe we are doing this again, the last homecoming we went to was 07 and it was against VA, UMD lost in the last seconds, after a BAD CALL! The intention is to sit next to student section.

I am guessing that Bullet and I are the closest to UMD, so we will pack the cooler and the mini grill, but do I need the roof top carrier for chairs too? Not a problem, just need to know! We are willing to be the grunts, just need people to pm to keep it moving foward

I am an italian suasage, peppers, onions on hoagie rolls or cheeseburger fan for tailgating…not a fan of chicken or ribs because that means more garbage with the bones!

What beverages should we have?

How about everyone is BYOB for beverages, chairs, and everyone brings a side dish or chips or two? We’d be glad to contribute $$ for the meat, etc., since the long-distance thing isn’t going to work for that for us. Just since you had the idea doesn’t mean you have to do all the grunt work!

I live about 3-4 hours away and DH and I will be coming up in a minivan so we can bring a small grill too and a good sized cooler. I second the BYOB and sidedish/dessert idea. I can bring four of the comfy fabric fold-out lawn chairs (leftovers from our days as band parents). I also have a couple card tables and folding tables if we need those.

CENTH You are now officially in charge of the folding card tables. I believe we have 6-8 chairs. Astro probably has chairs too, and they will be traveling with us, so leave the chairs! The tables and small grill are important.

Here’s what I am bringing:

Italian sausage
Hot dogs
Hamburgers/Cheeseburgers

Married to an Italian so I make/bring too much crap…knowing me I will probably bring chicken too!

I will supply all of that including condiments(ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, relish, etc), if you all agree to keep this thread going with the sides you will bring. Astro is in charge to remind me to pack the cooler with condiments.

I have no issue with the cost $$$ for meat/bread/condiments, etc.
The only thing I ask/stres is somebody to volunteer to bring the ice…that is something there is never enough of!
If you are out of town hit the 7-11 before the campus and bring some chips or cookies.

I will be making the skinny girl margarita:

2 oz of Clear Premium Tequila (count 1, 2 while you pour, no need for measuring)
Tiny splash of Orange Liquor
Juice of 4 Fresh Lime Wedges

I am also looking on line how to make lemon slushies.(non-alcoholic), just remind me to tell all of you the UNC/UMD slushie story…DS (UMD soph) was 4!

DS is suggesting LOT 1 behind Cole and in front of the track. It is a pay parking area. Bullet and I will park there, pm me so you connect via our cell. It would be a hoot if all of our kids checked in sometime during it. I know DS will be, because he knows that it is free food and the chance that Mom and Dad will slip him a few bucks(which we always do!). It would be so great to put faces and names together. I guess we should make hello stickers I am…bulletand pima AKA…
