I’m going to be a theatre major so I mixed it up with BFA/ BA programs.

1 Ivy (waiting for reply)
1 Top BFA (waiting for reply)
1 Wild Card with a Full Ride Honors Program (I find out tomorrow)
1 Top State University (Accepted… I’m very happy with this one!)
1 Private in-state University (Accepted but bad fit…it’s a round hole and I’m a square peg)

I’m happy with my choices but my applications were a little “all over the place.” If I would do it again, I would have auditioned for more BFA programs.

I applied to nine, and I feel like it was two many, because it's really now only coming down to a couple. It's ok to apply for 15, but it better mean that you would consider any of the 15 schools as a potential school to go to. Do not send in applications as throwaways. AND you should feel a little guilty because it is because of people applying to so many schools that makes it even harder for someone who really knows where they want to go, instead of applying to every ivy, or every UC.

I applied to 11 (6 reaches, 2 matches, and 3 safeties). It was a lot of paperwork, and A LOT of interviews, but I think it was the perfect number for me, because, ultimately, it will offer me greater flexibility should I get rejected from my top choices, and will also give me the ability to compare financial aid offers.

11 for me, too, because I ended up applying to 8 really competitive, top schools where getting in or not seemed like a total crapshoot (all Ivies minus Cornell & Columbia, Williams & Duke), and statistically, just felt like the more I applied to, the better my chances were of hitting one. Two match schools were Tufts & Georgetown, and then one safety I didn't much like.

In the end, though, the numbers really vary in meaning person-to-person. For me it just came down to the fact that I didn't want to risk anything, and if my parents were willing to pay for all the apps I didn't see a point of trimming my list down any.

I was scared. I applied to two total safeties that I really wouldn't like to attend, 5 matches, and 2 other safeties that weren't so bad. I was too scared to really try a reach, and I regret it now. (i've already been accepted to all but 3 of the nine, including the most selective school, WashU)

I applied to 10 schools. Having two college counselors, they had different opinions of my schools. For instance, one said I was pretty much applying to 4 Reaches, 2 Middles, and 4 Safeties.(She was a bit insane) The other said 6 Reaches, 3 Middles, and 1 Safety.(She was being a bit hard on me)

I liked 9 of the 10 schools I applied to, and the tenth I only applied to because one of my counselors kept trying to get me to apply there, and the other said I needed another middle/safety school.

The application process was a bit much, with 3 separate applications, and some rather daunting supplements, but I was able to do it after almost giving up on one of my schools.

Now that the whole thing is over, I don't regret applying to 10 schools. It gives me a choice if I get into more than one. I already got into one school (Emory) and I actually do like the school, despite its not being in my top three or even four. So now, applying to 10 schools wasn't necessary knowing that I got into my fifth choice, but I was concerned, and wanted to be sure I was going somewhere next year.
