My daughter only applied to 4- and only had one real favorite. Lucky for her she was accepted early action.

10:
2 Safetys (with free apps) Accepted
1 Safety (still cheap app) Accepted
2 Matches, 1 Accepted, 1 still waiting
5 Reaches, 1 Rejected EA, 4 still waiting

dyserenity-
How did it work out for you?

Mprices-
Not sure how the more schools=free ride works. Obviously(maybe) it does given your friend's experience but why? Please explain.

Since college admissions can be pretty random, applying to more schools increases your chances of receiving a full ride scholarship. There's really no guarantee for a full ride. It's just a matter of having your options open financially.

At first I applied to 4 schools, then I decided not to apply to one so I didn't pay the application fee. A few weeks after that I freaked out cause I didn't apply to enough schools and randomly applied to another. I got into two out of four and I'm probably going to random one.

It's worked out pretty well so far. A lot of my application were free, so price-wise it wasn't too horrible. I've been accepted to one place with full-tuition.

I applied to 6, but was only really considering 4; other 2 were dad's ideas. i didn't care cause he paid the application fees anyway. I got in early to one so now I am only looking at two schools.

I applied to 16...
Decided to because I am one of those people in the "middle 50%" when looking at stats.

I applied to 7, but only because I am probably the most indecisive girl in the world and I wanted a lot of options

Twelve here

What also might be interesting to add is the results and where you would have cut it off if applied to less. In other words, would you have missed getting into any or most all the schools if you hadn't upped the amount.

Am I making sense? Like this:

"I applied to 10 schools, 8-9-10 were kind of after thoughts, but I didn't get into 1-7 except for school number 5. I am going to school 9"
It is not necessary to say which schools, just give them a number.

It'd be a bit too soon for that! I hear from all my top choices, as do most people, this week (tomorrow!!!). But sounds like a good idea for later on.

I applied to 14, half of which were safeties (I was hoping for good scholarships). I didn't get the scholarships I expected, though I got one full ride, which I was extremely happy about. The full ride pretty much beats out all my other safeties, so I do wish I had applied to less safeties (but of course, I would never have been able to predict what scholarship money I'd be getting from which safety, if any at all, so I couldn't have decided which ones to not apply to).

I applied to 11 schools. However, it was the schools I thought I'd like the best that I have already crossed off my mental list and the ones I hesitated applying to (because of early deadlines, major issues, etc) that I have ended up liking the best. So it's a good thing I applied to so many, or I would not have been as happy with my choices.

I applied to 14 colleges I knew I'd like, 2 of which were safeties, 4 were matches, and the rest were reaches. So far, I've been accepted into 12 of 14; the two left haven't released their decisions yet.

I don't exactly wish I applied to less colleges, but I wish I somehow knew early that colleges like my essays and recs. Then, I'd applied to more reaches instead of having 6 now useless options.

I applied to 5 colleges...wished I applied to a few more...but oh well.

5 is an odd number

i applied to 27, with the intent to apply to 49 schools, before my guidance office shut me down. i only really considered about 7 or 8 schools though. the real reason i applied to so many was because at my graduation ceremony, they read every acceptance, and ill be hijacking the graduation ceremony, when they read off over 25 acceptances and over a million dollars in scholarships awarded.

That's fascinating! Wish I could be there to see that.

LOL JCostantinou, I wonder if my school does the same.....
