CC to CSU to UC? Please help

Hello,

The situation that I am in is kind of confusing but I will try my best to explain it in the best possible way. I am wanting to transfer to UCSB for the Fall 2013 semester. What I wanted to know is if it is possible to do this regarding the circumstances that I am under. For the last two years I attended Santa Barbara City College in which I was able to accumulate 61 units in total. I applied for UCSB for the Fall 2012 semester but was denied. I decided to attend San Francisco St University this Fall 2012 semester because that was the best college available out of the colleges that I had been accepted to. I am going to take 15 units this semester at SFSU and probably going to take 15 to 16 units again in the Spring 2013 semester. I still feel however that UCSB is the school for me and that is why I want to know if this is possible. What I wanted to know was if it is somehow possible for me to be able to transfer from SFSU to UCSB next year. I have more units from attending SBCC at 61 units then I would have from attending a full year at SFSU so would I be considered a CC transfer still? Please if you can tell me any options that I might have that would be great.

I dont know the solution for your problem. But its very hard fro students from CSU to transfer to a UC. Students from CC get the first priority, then UC to UC transfer get the second, CSU students are at the bottom of the list.

Thanks for replying. Do you know of a percentage of how many CSU students get into UC schools?

Also keep in mind that UCs do not accept senior transfers. If you will be a senior next year, then your chances are zero. In that case, your best bet is to just focus on graduating from SFSU with the best GPA you can get.

You’ll be considered a CSU transfer.

I’m going to be trying to go from Cal Poly Pomona to UC Davis. I have heard of more people transferring to UCI as seniors but not really elsewhere.

What you need to understand is that your chances are very low and UCSB will not permit you to transfer as a senior. The only colleges that will give you a chance are UCI, UCD, and UCR to my knowledge. You will need to be evaluated by the dean of your college of which you are applying to. Chances are very slim to begin with and even slimmer if your major is competitive.

For instance, I am applying to UCD as a senior transfer and going to major in statistics because they do not offer statistics here as a major and there is no research opportunity for bio statistics here. They also offer an integrated MA program which will take me three years to complete if I qualify for it once there. There are several other reasons but yeah. I talked to UCR and they said it may be possible. If you’re interested in getting into a UC, I would work extremely hard on all essays and list very compelling reasons for transferring in the additional space to explain things. And absolutely destroy your fall classes by getting a 4.0.

We are at the very bottom of the list. If your heart is set on UCSB, don’t go to a CSU and stay at a CC for another year. I’m not saying what I’ll do will work, but it may and not a lot of people tend to major in math/stats/ physics anyways (for what I’m doing).

I could have gone to a CSU but UC has been my dream so I went to a CC. I don’t know the percentage, but its very low.

If you really want to go to UCSB you should drop out of SFSU immediately and continue taking classes at a CC.

Thanks everyone for the help. I’m really going to have to think about this. Should I just take the chance even if it’s a low possibility? Worse thing that can happen is I just end up staying at SFSU

If you have ONLY CCC credits, the “senior transfer” issue does not affect transfer into a UC. However, if you have a MIX of CCC plus 4-year credits, the “senior transfer” issue does become a problem.

If you attend SFSU this fall, pretty much plan on staying there because you pretty much ruin any advantage you had being a CCC-to-UC transfer student. If a UC is what you want, attend a CCC this year and try applying to the UCs again (and pick a few more than just SB to broaden you chances).

Stay at SFSU = no probability
Stay at CCC = low to high probability depending on your GPA

Cflucio, while you might think UCSB is the school for you, UCSB does not appear to share your belief. If you were to spend yet another year at SBCC, making no progress towards getting your BA or BS, is there some real good reason to believe that UCSB will accept you next year and not deny you admission again. Unless UCSB can give you a specific reason as to why you were denied and you can remedy the deficiency by the end of this fall semester, staying at SBCC for another year, rather than getting on with your life and going to SFSU getting good grades and then applying to UCSB for graduate study, does not sound like a good idea.

What were your stats and major while applying this last go around?

Did you previously apply to UCSB through the TAG program at SBCC? If you did not, what do you think was the reason for the denial? If you did not TAG, call and talk to a counselor at SBCC and see if you qualify with the classes you have already completed.

I think that would difficult but either way you can get your BA and get your masters at your dream school.
