Hello, I recently transferred to UC Santa Barbara from a CC with a 3.5 GPA, I was admitted to UC Davis(both Econ Major) as well but chose UCSB over UCD. My first quarter here was pretty rough, my GPA was about 0.96. My second quarter right now is looking good so far, but since I failed the class I need for my econ major, ( This class requires B to get into the Major, C is not acceptable.) I am retaking it again this quarter but the policy is that if I fail this class again then I fail out of the major and there’s really no other major that I can think of at the moment that interest me. My question to you guys is IF I DO FAIL THIS CLASS AGAIN and I fail out of the major, should I go back to CC and transfer again to other UC? And what are my chances of getting into Davis again including the fact that Im on academic probation and my GPA at UCSB is really low. Thanks for the insight, but this has really been stressin me out its crazy…
I don’t think you can go back to CC and transfer again. How many units do you have and how many are upper division?
I completed 9 units here at UCSB with a grade of D and C-. 5 of those are upper division
by the way, I was told I can go back to CC and transfer again, I just have no idea what classes I would take.
Your circumstances are unique. Have you considered CSUs and a business related major?
The thing is all UCs are in the same system so if you aren’t in good academic standing at one school then I’m pretty sure you cannot enroll in a different UC. (same goes for CSUs). I could be wrong but I am pretty sure about this.
With poor grades in Econ major courses at UCSB I really can’t see a Davis admissions officer letting you in.
If you fail then you should apply to CSU.
what if I bring up my GPA to good standing point at UCSB and then go back to CC and transfer?
Your UC GPA is 0.96? Are you on academic probation right now?
yes I am.
Davis as an 80 unit cap. So if you get 10 upper division units at UCSB then you’ll be bared from entry.
Also IIRC you need the last 30 units or so to be from CCC to be given CCC priority status. So there is a good chance they’ll treat you as a UC-UC transfer.
Either way it’ll be obvious you flunked out as an econ major at UCSB so i really don’t see another UC admissions officer letting you in for the same major. Best bet will be CSU.
what’s another good major then? because I already fulfilled all the requirements needed for Econ major besides the Pre Major class, and if I were to stay at UCSB, I would need a different major. What do you recommend?
and what if for example I were to do UC Riverside? or any other UC school. I just want to stay in UC and not go to a CSU.
I’m applying to UCLA, Cal, UCSB, UCI right now for Business, Business-Economics, and Economics but I have have absolutely 0% intention of going to UCLA, USCB or UCI. My friend at CSUF-Economics says that the FBI recruits econ majors there and Morgan Stanley hires accounting majors. So if I don’t get into Berkeley-Haas I’m going to Fullerton even over UCLA.
BTW that friend got rejected from UCLA and had to decided between UCSB and CSUF. He said if he attended UCSB he would have regretted it.
Riverside has a 30 unit upper division policy before rejection so you’ll have a better chance but the name of school doesn’t mean as much as the strength of the program and the recruitment possibilities. I don’t think the low-tier UCs are worth attending vs. the top CSUs.
thanks, bump what do others think?
um try not to flunk out of the major and stay?
I agree with @bomerr. Bomerr gives great advice - honest, practical, and knows all the ins and outs about UCs and transferring.
@bomerr, I rather doubt that your recruiting opportunities would be worse out of UCLA than CSUF.
I’m trying my best to pass this class, but there are lots of personal factors that comes into play when you’re in college. I’m just simply trying to figure out the best back up option IF I do fail out of my major
@PurpleTitan
UCLA does have good recruiting possibilities but it has issues as well.
1st) It’s a pre-major just like UCSB. I got 2 friends who transferred into UCLA. One is killing it and setting class curves. The other got kicked out of the pre-major.
2nd) So that leads me to competition. My intelligence is somewhere in-between them. So I wouldn’t flunk of out the major BUT I wouldn’t get the best GPA either. This would limit my options.
2.5) small fish big pond vs. big fish small pond in terms of ECs.
3rd) Actual courses aren’t that good. It’s an Economics program with an Accounting minor. It’s impossible to sit for the CPA out of UCLA and i’ve already taken all the accounting classes they offer at CC. I’d rather take real business classes like intro to marketing vs. econometrics.
If I did decide to attend UCLA It would only be because of a better financial aid package.
What do you guys think about sjsu??
