Hi, I am a CC student whose been going to CC for 2 yrs now and I finished the IGETC and did the Honors program to get TAP Certified. I havent finish all my major course but 3/9 done. I have a 3.65 gpa, can you tell me my chances of getting into UCLA (primary) or any other UC's? PS: I am also in Alpha Gamma Sigma and Phi Theta Kappa, I am just an active member not in any officer positions. I have done 20 hrs of community service at Boys and Girls Club and I also worked in a orphanage for mentally challenged kids in Mexico with my Church Mission Group. I've had a job as a tutor for two bright kids but had to quit because I needed to concentrate on my studies. also pre-dental major.

Yeah I definitely would write a very compelling essay, because Biochemistry is a really hard major to get into. I know some people with 3.8 that didn’t get into UCLA…

biochem is not a really hard major to get into. i believe the acceptance rate is somewhere around 50% with the average gpa being around a 3.5. as long as you have all your pre-req’s done, i think you should be fine.

Also, join more extra curricular activities because even if you get a high GPA, it doesn’t matter because you would have nothing to support that GPA. And working while in college is a good thing too.

First all all, i’d make sure your “friends” had their prereqs finished. Secondly, a lack of ECs (and life in general) will shine most glaringly in your essay. I would bet a million dollars to toledo that their essays were trash.
I had one semester of community service and a one club officer position, and I got into both ucb and ucla with less than a 3.8 so…
Sure if you do nothing your time in college and have nothing to say then yeah you wont look like a good candidate, but you can EASILY explain away lack of ECs.
This specific student, given the info he/she has given is fine.

Ecs are overrated on this board for UC admissions.
