CC Transfer Student Question

I currently attend a community college and have a 4.0 GPA. I never finished high school and opted to get a GED instead. Now that I am getting ready to transfer, I cannot provide complete high school transcripts because I never finished. Will this hurt my chances of transfering to a good school or will they tend to focus more on the college grades and reccomendations? Also I have not taken my SAT's yet, but i will before applying to transfer. My dream is to get into Amherst, do I have a shot?

Pick up the phone, call the Amherst transfer admissions officer, and talk with that person about your situation. Having a GED is not going to be what keeps you out of that place.

Amherst does not require, but does recommend the SAT for transfers. However, in your situation, with a GED and 2 years of CC, that’s a pretty good reason for not having scores from standardized tests that are generally taken in HS.

I think that you can still provide a HS even though you didn’t finish, and a copy of your GED.
