I've heard a lot of things about the more well known schools: parsons, pratt, mica, risd, saic, etc.

currently, im thinking of maybe applying to the following schools:
pratt
mica
art center
school of visual arts

im still looking deeper into ringling, calarts, parsons, u. cincinnatti

yep, so thats my list so far, but from what im hearing, the schools i mentioned are supposedly some of the best/competitive art schools in the US, and i feel as if i should think about the scenario in which i dont get into any of them.

so i was wondering if anyone knew anymore general info on CCA, MCAD, CCAD, CIA - im not finding much on this forum in regards to these schools, so i decided to make a topic here. just general info on their difficulty of getting in (from lurking these forums, im getting the feeling that these are generally easier to get into?), difficulty of course work, prestige (in relation to other art schools), education quality, and all that good stuff. any input is appreciated

It would be a lot better if you noted your areas of interest in art. Are you interested in fine art or design? What phase of fine art or design are you interested in?

oh - ideally, looking for graphic design major with concentration in illustration

interested in conceptart/illustration/childrens book illustration/digital art/, games/movies, and for some strange reason, want to try greeting card illustration at some point

I intend to major in Illustration.

I'm looking at Pratt, Parson's (as I would prefer to be in NYC) as my top choices.

Considering MICA/RISD/Art Center/Cal Arts/Otis if I get a reeeally good scholarship.

SAIC is my safety school as I'm confident I could get in and get a nice scholarship. Plus it's close to home. But I'd prefer to go a school with a strong Illustration department.

And I'm keeping Ringling and CCS on the backburner just in case.

I'm still looking into the schools but I figured I'd toss in my 2 cents.

hmm - thanks, its pretty helpful hearing from someone intending to major in illustration. i have not heard of CCS though, i'll take a look at that

CCS is in Detroit, Mi (where I live) so I'm considering it for that reason. I have no doubts that I could get a great education there but it's important to me to go to a school in a large city that has connections with the industry. I really liked that some of the bigger named schools can get you internships before you graduate.

With Detroit, you'd most likely have to move out of the city to get a job after graduation. But at least it's a cheap place to live while attending school.
