Right now I am a community college student and by the end of my schooling at the community college I will have about 100 transferable units to the UC system. I just recently found out that most UCs starting Fall 2014 will no longer admit community college students because of being over whatever the UC school has decided. I am a nutrition major and would like to transfer to UC Berkeley or Davis, but theyre limits apparently will be UCB: 90 units and UCD: 80 units... My question is, should I even bother doing the harder classes? I mean, the CSUs take less difficult classes and the only reason Im taking the more difficult ones is because I want to transfer to a UC. Im really unmotivated now about schooling since I worked so hard to maintain a good GPA and do extra curricular activities to even stand a chance. Now knowing that I wont get admitted because it being I have too many units instead of it being on grades and extra curricular has really bummed me out. I hate the education system...

heres the actual file: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/uc-transfer-maximum-limitation-policy-chart.pdf

O.o

“do not put applicants at risk of being denied admission for excessive units”

My counselor told me that meant if I were at the 70’s I would not be at risk, but since i will be over I will be at risk…

Tha file does not say that anywhere. Where did you get that misinformation from? I have not heard that.
All it talks about are your unit limits.

I recieved this information from my counselors at the community college. I’m trying to do as much research on this as possible, but can you clarify what this online file means? What do you mean by limits? This is the reason I turned to you guys here because I feel so lost.

It’s talking about how many units will transfer towards your degree. What ever does not transfer you will have to retake. They will cap you off at whatever the school decides.

I’m pretty sure that is going to affect the people trying to transfer for the fall 2015 semester since its effective fall 2014.

A 100 units is a lot by the way. They’re probably going to be deterred from anyone with that amount of units ,because it looks like you don’t know what path to take in life.

Unless I’m missing something, all of your units are from a CC right, not a 4-yr? So if that’s the case, you can only transfer 70 units max. At a CC, you can only take lower division classes, and you’ll still have to take about 60 or so at the 4yr school after transfer. Aside from the issue of having too many units, you’re kind of spinning your wheels with that many Units at a CC. No 4 year university will transfer more than 60-70 units from a CC, because its not possible to take upper division classes as a CC.

The reason I have a lot of units is because I was doing the IGETC and the science pre reqs which add a lot and I wanted to qualify for o ther UCs as well so there were a couple additional classes I had to take to satisfy the other UCs. I also took classes my first year I didnt need since I was undecided…

Are all your units from your cc? If so, then completely disregard that link. Your counselor doesn’t know hat he/she is talking about.

Yes, my units are from CC, but the link does say all lower division units from 2 years or 4 years.

I think you should re-read it. It says “do not”.

@izzy it will just take 70 toward your degree. You will have to retake some of those classes.

Your counselor is an idiot the UC’s won’t stop admitting CC students.

Mermaker is right it says does not put you at risk of admission.

You should call the admissions offices of the schools you’re interested in, and get the info directly from them. We can guess and assume all day, but theirs us the only opinion that matters.

@mermaker I read the “do not” as in does not affect students within that margin.

@stanx89 I hope so man, I got so bummed out today from hearing this, but then again I will transfer in 2016… :/

@2016candles Yeah I know what you mean. I am right now in the UC berkeley TAP program and I will speak to the coordinator of that program.

Thanks for the help guys.

@izzy your transferring in 2016. It’s up in the air what will happen then. That’s 3 years from now. How long have you been at your CC?

With the California budget crisis a lot can change in 3 years a lot.
