Who's going to be there Jan 14th? I'm auditioning then for the Acting program.

My D has an audition on January 28th for MT.

I will be auditioning Jan 14. for MT

January 14th for MT.

My voice teacher said they did away with the cut program. Has anyone heard anything like that, ow was she wrong? Thats my biggest worry.

See you on Saturday Julieann and Theaterjock!

Your voice teacher is wrong. They do still cut people. A MT student I talked to there said that he likes the cut program though, he said not to be afraid of it and it's good to have faculty who are honest with you, you don't want them to just let you out into the field if they don't think you can succeed. Many disagree with this student's opinion, however.

Good luck on your audition!

i am actually in my hotel right now and earlier today i stopped in at the CCM building, just to check things out. and on the board it said please welcome our 314 students who are auditioning 1-13&1-14.....so just on this weekend alone they are auditioning 314..i would have to assume close to or over a thousand would have to audition with all of the other audition dates. little over 24 hrs til judgement calls

Are you sure the number is for MT's? I'm guessing it's for the conservatory -- even the gods couldn't hear 314 kids in one weekend! And, unlike some schools, the same team hears everyone - it's not divided up into different auditors for different kids. I think your 1000 total number may be fairly accurate, though :)

I was looking at the paper today, and they were all different majors. I only saw about 10 BFA majors (What I'm going for) and I saw a bunch of Music Ed and S.I.P.M. (Some insturment performance major...haha) I am walking around the hotel King's Gate Marriot and you can tell who all the CCM kids are. It's kind of funny. We all have that apprehensive look on our face like...JUST CONDUCT THE AUDITION ALREADY!!!

Tomorrow is the big day!

julieann

Good luck you guys!

The 314 is for all conservatory programs, or at least almost all. I was hanging out trying to find where they moved my D's tap class to, and the list on MT with song/monologue times was about a page and a half long - 10 point font, I would guess about 60 -75.
I hope you all enjoyed the day and I am gald we didn't get the predicted snow, although the wind wasn't very nice.

I have several answers for questions asked here... I was also auditioning today at CCM... it was an excellent audition that was run smoothly and professionally.

The Conservatory has changed since the 80s... the director of the musical theatre program said that in the 80s, they were looking for students who could really sing. Now they are more centered around the triple threat. They said if you must be excellent in 2 of the 3 (singing, acting, dancing), and GOOD in the other. They also said that there can be musicals without dancing, musicals with litte acting, but there is never a musical without singing.

The answer to the question on the number of auditionees for CCM is a little less than 700. They accept 30-35 into their program, hoping that around 24-26 will accept.

If anyone has any other questions, I may be able to answer them from what I learned today.

OMG staying at the kingsgate marriot was one of the FUNNIEST experiences of my life. Walking into the restruant they had friday night before my audition and seeing every table have a teenager with a parent... and everyone's scoping everyone out. Hysterical. I almost died right there.

Umm yeah, Broadwaycorey covered everything basically. They accept 5% of those who audition. Haha to answer my original question "what are they looking for?"... people who will be employable after graduation. Doesn't matter if your a model or not, if your terrible and someone who is adverage looking, maybe has a few flaws, is AMAZING, they will take the amazing person over the model.

Something interesting I found out about "the cut" is that they got rid of the sophomore review, so now your only "in danger" your freshman year. I talked to a bunch of students after my audition, abnd they said that they thought they were getting rid of the cut program completly. They said you'd know if you were in danger becuase they're very honest and they will tell you point blank. You also get a "practice" review your first semester, and are given a chance to be told what you need to work on for the real review.

Yep- the kingsgate marriot was a blast.

Did anyone go to the opera? And were any of you the people on the packed van ride home?

Yeah!!! That was one heck of a van ride!

julieann87 - you auditioned for drama right? how did it go???

also questions for everybody: did you hear any songs done a million times? OH and did they have students perform for you? did you get good feeback from the ppl watching or were they pretty deadpan?

I didn't hear songs that were done a million times. I did notice that no one did any obscure songs.

Students did perform for us- there were three uper-classmen who did Good Mornin from Singing in the Rain (the same three that taught us the combination along with another), a senior girl sang a beautiful song from Funny Girl, called My Man, and 5 students did a lyrical dance to Michael Buble's Feeling Good. They were all amazing, and I was EXTREMLY intimidated by it (haha).

As for feedback, there was none for me. They like all adjunticators try not to be so enthusiastic when students go up. Dr. Burg, during my audition, was kinda... rockin out while I sang my ballad. That was the only positive body language I could read (though I wasn't really paying attention to them that much). It scared me when they didn't really react at all to my monologue (which was comic), but whatever. They say they might ask you some questions at the end of your audition, but I was towards the end of the day and I didn't get asked anything (they did this to more than a few people). From what I've heard the questions were like "Why Do you wanna go here?" and "what can you bring the the campus?" They asked a girl who was in a produciton of Beauty and the Beast, as Belle, to sing Home.

Thanks! thats really helpful info. That is hilarious that they did the Feelin' Good dance, I was sitting in on that dance class when they were learning part of it haha. yeah...incredible dancing.

My audition for BFA in Dramatic Performance went awesome. It was all I wanted it to be, and more. We met at CCM at 1 where we had Dr.Richard Hess (Head of the Drama dept.) talk to us about the auditions and the numbers of kids auditioning. They auditioned about 400, taking roughly 15-18...as all CCM programs. After he talked at us we went into a group audition; we did some group response things, very challenging and very fun. After that we waited for our auditions. So we all sat there, talking to one another and students of the DP program. I was like number 15 to audition, I walked into the room and there was all the faculty of the drama dept. (NOT INTIMIDATING...psych) I introduced myself the way they told me, and presented the two pieces. They responded well. They asked me why I wanted to be an actor, and what my fav. role I had in the past was. Then I sighed a big sigh of relief, and smiled.

No matter what happens--If I get in (cross fingers), or if I don't...I know I did my best and came off well, and made a connection with Prof. Hess. I think. He knew my name by the end of the day.

That was my day. And I am proud of what I did.

Moliere's "Don Juan"--Monologue I was Don Elvira
Tony Kushner's "A Bright Room Called Day" in which I was Zeliah

They did not use a stop watch like the MT dept does because they don't have as many kids to go through.

Anyone still have the website they gave us on the green sheet to check admissions? Mine got lost, somehow.
