Hi everyone!

I have a question which may sound completely bizarre and ridiculous (no such thing as a stupid question? Wait…)

I have a huge interest in musical theatre and am hoping to study it after high school. The thing is, I’m quite confident with my acting and dancing, however my singing is just fine. Serviceable.

I was wondering, does anybody know the percentage make-up for admissions on different areas? (Such as dance qualifies as 50% for your admission decision etc). The reason I ask is in a recent interview with Cody Williams (A CCM grad currently in Cinderella on Broadway) said: “To be honest, I couldn’t sing at all. That’s why I wanted to go to Cincinnati …It was clear that if I could train with CCMs voice faculty I could become the singer I hoped to be”.

In other words, if there is a potentially good singer in me with good acting and dancing ability, what are my chances of being accepted? Hopefully this doesn’t sound too about the map, I tried wording it my best!

Thanks!

I think it works best if you’re astounding in at least one area and okay in the other two, you can’t be terrible. Cody Williams was actually in my NYC audition helping with the dance call and he is great dancer with a lot of energy…he also did a back flip.

I agree with dreambelle13. My D’s classmates all have different strengths and weaknesses but what I believe they all share is potential in all areas. I’m sure the faculty was able to hear the potential in Cody’s voice before he got in even if dance was his relative strength.

Coming from someone who studies every week in the CCM Prep department, I would say that Dance is their primary focus. Talking to the staff, saying that you have a BFA in MT from CCM, you’re basically saying you have a dance minor compared to other schools. However, I wouldn’t say that singing is not important in regards to your acceptance. Everyone who studies there is top notch and it’s extremely competitive.

I disagree that dance is their primary focus, although they do have good dance training. My daughter says every year is a little different - I’m her class there are definitely quite a few girls who are more actor/singer or singer/actor types - my daughter being one of them. Although they can all move well. They place you in the proper dance class. My daughter says though that the current freshman class has a lot of dancers because they are losing a lot of dancers w their seniors. So it just depends - you can’t predict in any year what they are looking for. Just be the best YOU you can be! (And get as much training as you can in all three areas)
