Celeron/ Carriage House Apartment Parties

I just visited the campus and was told that most of the parties on the weekends are in the Celeron /Carriage House apartments. These apartments were not that close to campus and were sort of isolated by woods. How do students get back and forth especially in the cold? Is it safe? Are there any current students out there who can answer this? Thanks.

Here's a map for reference:

Don't be scared of the name... really.... lol..... no really.... haha. The trail has so much blinding lights throughout and cops usually patrol it, especially on big party nights like Spring weekend. Students walk it in the cold, rain, sleet, snow, whatever. If you go to UConn you need to prepare for the cold, cause sometimes it gets rough, especially considering our position on the top of a hill. You're just gonna have to kind of deal with it.

The name is scary especially if it is based on actual incidents. Is there a history of rapes and/or sexual assault on this path? Can you take a bus or van back to the dorms, I saw a flyer on campus about a school provided van ride to certain locations. Obviously at any school you should not walk alone on a dark isolated path, I am just trying to get all the facts. I received a scholarship from UConn and I am seriously considering it.

Well, I'm not a UConn historian or anything, so anything I have heard can very well just be lies to further the lore. With that said, I wouldn't doubt there to have been cases in the past but they've installed tons of lights since and you can barely walk through it without being blinded much less rape someone.

There are buses to the apartments. There are also shuttle vans within campus at night. I think it picks people up from the Student Union. I'm not sure I've never ridden on one.

UConn takes public safety to a pretty high degree, probably overdoing it. Here's an email we got two weeks ago:

Storrs Campus
Suspicious Occurrence

On 2/7/09 at approx 635pm an incident occurred at Hilltop Apts In the parking lot between the Beard and French buildings. Police are looking for a white male 6'1" with longer brown hair wearing a red jacket and jeans. The male walked by a female from behind and ultimately passed her about 3 feet away from her. This made her feel uncomfortable as if the male was too close. The female turned around and left the area. The male left in the opposite direction.

lol, I mean come on.

UConn's academic standing is rising dramatically, along with its admission standards. The campus has buildings that are either completely renovated or in the process of. Parties are still pretty crazy, especially during Spring weekend where there's literally over ten thousand people partying at a single location.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Thanks for the response, good to hear about the lights and security.

Ha, I know that was ridiculous.

Anyway, also as a UConn student, I’d just echo everything bhxgryphon said. Though I’ve never met somebody who took a bus or school transportation to/from Celeron or Carriage. Everybody just walks. Be careful on the ice though, one of my friends slipped and nearly took his eye out.

There has been no reported rape on the “Rape Trail” it is just a silly name. Also, every weekend there are sober drivers to tons of parties around campus some are free others charge a couple dollars for guys and usually you find the numbers on facebook groups for the event. Different clubs will also do sober rides for a fundraiser. If you are a boy and like to party, I would highly recommend joining a fraternity because it will make your social life much less stressful. Girls, you will never have a problem
