Where I live Verizon is the provider with the best service.

But at TCNJ, which cell phone service provider do you find has the best service around campus? Also, is there anywhere on campus that has really bad service?

Speaking from experience I can say that I definitely had worst service than my roommate IN OUR BUILDING (outside they both worked just fine): I have Verizon, she has AT&T. At school I would HAVE to charge my phone every 2 days even if I hadn’t used it at all. I even bought an extra battery just in case. While at home, I can go 2 weeks without charging my phone before it will even drop 3 bars. However, because at my home I get excellent service with Verizon wherever I am, it wasn’t really worth it for me to change over.

The majority of the dorms have bad service (this is especially true for the freshmen dorms). Some of the academic buildings also have pretty crummy service. However, in some of these locations the quality of service really depends on where exactly you are. For example, in order to make and/or answer any calls on my floor I had to go either in our lounge or near the elevators. On other floors in my building some people would get good service with Verizon right in their rooms, so go figure that out. Also, I’ve noticed that sometimes when I’m inside the science buildings I won’t receive my messages until I’ve gotten outside.

In general, the best area for phone service (regardless of provider) is anywhere outside LOL as well as the area immediately surrounding the library (i.e. Eickhoff, Alumni Grove, maybe the soph dorm Centennial, etc.) because that area is wireless. Loser Hall also probably gets pretty good service. Yes, the service is pretty low in some areas but I didn’t find it to be anything so bad that it was unbearable.

It doesn’t bother me if I don’t always have service, but I would hate it if I had such bad service in my room that I couldn’t text there. If I stay with Verizon, is it possible I won’t be receiving text messages while in my room?

There were a few times when my texts were slightly delayed but luckily it didn’t happen that often. Again, it was never unbearable for me and as far as I know other people who had Verizon didn’t really have that much of a problem with it either. I’ve also had this happen to me at home a few times so I can’t say it was definitely a result of the bad service at school lol.
