Cell phone reception?

My d needs a new cell phone, and we have the option of changing companies. So I'm trying to figure out which cell phone providers have good reception at most of the schools she might attend. We currently have Cingular - does anyone know how good reception is at Muhlenberg? Is there a better choice?

Thanks.

No problems with Verizon connections. Sorry, Chev, Can't help you with Cingular option.

There's some type of mapping websites online that compare the coverage of various networks. I used it when switching services 8 yrs ago when we moved to a semi-rural area. I don't have the link, but a Google search might find something.

We have Cingular and my son had no trouble using his phone when visiting the Berg (but I don't know that he made all that many phone calls).

I'm currently at the 'Berg and I have very good reception with Cingular. I only lose it in the depths of the library and some of the lower level of Seegers (student union).

Probably too late for this reply but I haven't been on for a while. I've got a son in the mid-west, a daughter in NY city, and another at Muhlenberg. We all have Verizon and it's been great.

Thanks. How does your d like Muhlenberg?

Chedva,
She is so happy there! She is neither a pre-med nor arts major..liberal arts, psychology. A little homesick the first week or two but it passed. She has become very involved in different activities, etc.
Is your child there now, or going next year?

My husband ran into someone today whose son is a junior at Muhlenburg. She said that he loves it and the only negative was the crowded dorms. Is there a problem with finding space for everyone?

Hi Joyce-my daughter is a sophomore (and, my niece graduated in 2001)
Muhlenberg, like many schools, is enjoying a larger number of students deciding to attend- (increased yield). And, yes, this year there was a housing issue, some juggling of students occurred to accommodate the larger freshman class.

A new dorm opened mid year-so that helped the situation. The question is whether Muhlenberg will admit fewer students this year, to control the incoming number of students. Perhaps, another parent/ student may know if this is planned.

So to answer your question- I don't think there is a housing problem now.

Another interesting note- our D traveled to Italy for her 10 day break, to visit a couple girls (muhlenberg studetns) studying abroad.
She flew out of Phila, and saw three other Muhlenberg students traveling to Europe to other destinations. While in Italy, she had a wonderful time, the housing for the Muhlenberg students was excellent, in great neighborhood.
Very impressive number of students traveling and doing something other than the "Florida" spring break. :)

My daughter has never said anything about crowding. I do remember, like note above, hearing that there was some rearranging to accomodate the large freshman class but that due to a new dorm (for upper class students) it is now resolved. The freshman were not affected by it though, and knowing how Muhlenberg works, I don't believe they would have a situation where there wasn't enough room for the new freshman.

My D's freshamn class was bigger than anticipated, and when school started last Sept there were some students who had to live in triples that were unplanned for. As far as I know those kids have all been accomodated correctly now.
I have the feeling they are being a bit more conservative with acceptances this year to yield a more managable class size.
