what's the best cell phone service to have in hanover?? i have sprint now but i'm not sure how it will be up there next year...

prolly verizon or cingular/at&t ...

We were just up in that area this weekend, our cingular service did not hold up too well

I'd also like to know how Sprint holds up in Hanover.

Sprint works well on campus as far as we could tell. We have Sprint and it works even when we were at CVS in Hanover. Son uses Sprint including the EVDO services with no problems at all.

Verizon is by far the best, but sprint and cingular (among others) work just fine.

We have had both verizon and sprint since D has been in hanover and both have worked fine.

Students also have free phone service in their rooms

cingular/at&t worked just fine for me...

cingular/at&t have been giving us trouble - often pulls off network, to the point where the company closely monitors our account and threatens to cut the line. Others, however, seem to use it freely. Don't quite get it.

Verizon is near-perfect. The only place I don't get service is in the basement of the Hop, which I don't frequent all that much. If you have a choice, definitely go with Verizon.

What about T-Mobile?

My friend has t-mobile and it has terrible service.

When I visited in April, T-Mobile was fine. :/

With some carriers with weak or no presence in the area, while you are able to pick up a signal off another carrier's tower with the occasional (visitor) use, once the level of calls 'off network' exceeds a certain percentage of total use, you run into trouble. Currently Cingular/ATT has limited service in the area and, at least in our case, (a) threatened to drop the service and (b) put a restriction on which towers the phone could pull a signal from thus severely limiting the locations in and around town in which the phone has service.

Verizon seems to have great service in the area - and also seems less inclined, by policy, to penalize a user for pulling signals from other carrier towers.

Son has Verizon and has had no problems.

anyone know about Unicel?

anyone know about Unicel?
[/quote]

My t-mobile service displays Unicel as the carrier name, so I guess Unicel has a strong presence here. No problems so far.

t-mobile seems to work fine. Of course, I've only gotten one phone call from S, so who knows. :)

Verizon works better than ATT just outside of town

can you get 3G on ATT there? iPhone addiction here...
