Cell phone service

Hi all, I was accepted EA to Caltech and plan to attend next year... this may be an odd question, but I was wondering what cell phone service providers have good signal in Pasadena. Many of the companies say that they have service there, but even in the large suburb where I live, it's really hard to get service from some companies who supposedly provide it. Aka I have spent much of the last year (contract) running around w/ only 1 bar showing up. I'm going to switch soon and would like to get one that gets good service there.

So, any suggestions from your prev experience/hearsay?

My son, a Caltech Freshman, has Sprint & it seems to work fine for him. But as I remember there was a thread about cell phone service last summer so a search of the Caltech Forum should find it for you.

All services that I know of will work pretty well outside generally. But, the one other person I know besides myself who has always been able to get full signal in the North Houses also uses Cingular, so I would recommend that most. Heck, I can get signal in a lot of the tunnels under campus (Harvey Mudd students looking for a prank that doesn't end in embarrassment, take note.)

You get full reception everywhere in the north houses (like in the rooms?). I get OK reception (and I thought I had better reception than you guys did when we were all in page) but I use Sprint. If Cingular is extremely better I'll attempt to get my parents to change.

Oops, accidentally posted twice or something...

I always got full signal in Page and Lloyd. I know the Linux teddy bear got good signal too in Ruddock with Cingular. If you're not having problems, there's no reason to switch.

I don't think it's possible to not get full signal in the mods, the walls are made out of glorified paper... Haven't tried calling from the South Houses yet, but I will tomorrow (yay, moving in!)

Awesome! I'll be at tech on saturday. Let me know if you need any help moving (you'll probably be done, but I'll help if I can)
