Which cell phone network(s) function best in Ithaca? Any in particular to avoid? Any other Cornell/Ithaca specific recommendations related to student cell phones? Thanx.

Verizon is pretty good. There is pretty good reception everywhere around campus, unless you're in the basement of some buildings.

everyone always says verizon is the best. It won't work everywhere, but it will work better than the other networks is the concensus.

Verizon works the best just about everywhere except the sticks of course. Ha... But, yeh it's the most popular phone plane I believe and it is convientent with the In-Calling stuff... Then again not sure if I like having parts of West Virginia included in my in-callign zone... kinda pointless.. ha..

i use sprint and it works very well.

nextel has excellent reception here.

what about t-mobile??

t-mobile is horrible. My girlfriend has it. Never works on North campus. Avoid.

can someone else verify that t-mobile is not good at cornell?

also: what's In-calling?

I have Tmobile, it isn't great but it works well enough for me. Verizon definately has better service, but I like being able to buy whatever phone I want and I can't do that with Verizon (you have to buy a phone from them).

I don't know the exact definition of in-calling, but I can call my family or anyone who uses Verizon without having the minutes counted.

Verizon works really well. Isn't there a tower right on campus?

verizon is universally good, it will never fail

what about Cingular?

yeah, anyone have cingular?

Son has Cingular. It is working better with his new (Xmas-gift) phone than with his older model. Both worked well when he was outside. He has had some quality problems in his North Campus dorm room, but we just call back on the dorm phone.

i hear cingular is pretty good, but a notch behind verizon...much greater variety of phones though w/ cingular
