<p>Do we need to get new numbers for our cell phones when we get to New York? Like, with an NY area code? Trying to work all that out this week....</p>
<p>nope. cell phones aren't long distance regardless of location/area code (I'm from TX too and I've traveled/lived in pretty much the entire East Coast (literally) using the same cell & number and location doesn't matter unless you're international...)</p>
<p>Those who are from Canada/Europe/Asia/Britian...etc, will have to look into an international plan, but I'm sure they all already know that.</p>
<p>see that's what i thought, and that's what they told us when we got cell phones, but when i went to chicago a couple years ago (same provider, same plan as i've always had/have now) when we got the phone bill we had long distance charges.... hmm.</p>
<p>that's weird...well...i've used my tx cell in nyc before and the bill never had any long distance charges, so you're fine</p>

Verizon charged roaming charges until two years ago...</p>
<p>and then, they changed all plans to "Nationwide" </p>
<p>if you choose Sprint and pick local plan, you still would get charged 50cents/minute roaming charge...</p>
<p>for other carriers, I think all of their plans are nationwide (coast to coast)</p>
<p>to add to merumerume - Sprint will wave the roaming charge as long as you do not roam for half of your bill. Otherwise, youre screwed.</p>
