We are going to switch from prepaid to a monthly cellphone plan for our soon to be freshman daughter so she can call us whenever she wants without worrying about minutes. What plans have you used and how have they worked for you? How many minutes do you use in a typical month? Also, has anyone used Cingular? What's been your experience with them? I've heard Verizon is good, but Cingular is a little cheaper.

My roommate last year had Cingular, and she had such great service I decided to switch to it myself. I had Sprint and didn't get service in a single building on West Campus (which is not uncommon for most providers) but she got five bars everywhere...I was always stealing her phone. Most people do have Verizon, but Cingular works fine too.

When it comes to plans, I have a family plan so I'm probably not one to solicit advice when it comes to that...I'm not exactly sure.

Stay the hell away from T-Mobile and get Verizon

I think the best on campus would be Verizon and then Cingular -- T-Mobile gives people more headaches than anything else.
